Thumbs down Trousers, rant!

Everyone else is having a rant so here's mine!

What gives with trousers and in particular, their size?

I went into a shop yesterday, asked for some size 11 shoes, knowing that I'm a size 11, tried em on, perfect, thanks very much! Bought some socks today, size 9 -12, tried em on tonight, perfect, thanks very much! Ordered two pairs of smart trousers from the Next Directory, thought I'd get two pairs delivered cos I wasn't sure which I liked the most. I ordered them in a 38" waist cos the jeans I have, also from Next are a 38" waist, tried the first pair on...not a chance, not even close! Now I'm not talking 'a bit tight', oh no, I'm talking button being a good 2 inches away from it's hole and not only that, I'm breathing in for England! Thinking this must be a terrible mistake, I tried the other pair on thinking they'd fit but no, they're tighter than the first pair!

So what goes on, do the jeans department have a different type of tape measure to the smart trouser department, does one use imperial inches and the other metric inches, does Stevie Wonder work in the quality control department, do Next employ people who are incapable of using a simple measuring instrument correctly, who knows?!

Does anyone else suffer form this or is it just me?

I don't want to worry you but I find the Next size 38" to be a lot more spacious than any other brands.

why is it that manufacturers make stupid assumptions about peoples sizes..

just because i have a 34 in waist dosent mean i have a 33 inch inside leg...

it gets on my nerves when they do loads of trousers in s m l but all have a 32 inside leg!!!!

burtons managed to get it right, and produced a range of jeans in reg fit with a 29 inside leg...

bloody perfect, i could just pick them up and go...

so what did they do... they employed mr 6' 6" baboon as there next designer and he forgot that people have small inside legs...

Yeah I'm a fat knacker, I don't deny that but at least I'm consistently a fat knacker regardless of what I'm wearing!

Too darn right....is eveybody with a beer belly a bean pole, or a short arsed midget

Trying to find 34" waist 30" leg jeans or trousers are a nightmare. Trousers are ok, I just get them turned up, but with jeans forget it!

Even when I had a 32" waist (yep that's the beer's fault ..on a diet though - 33" waist. so 32 is too tight and 34 too loose now ) finding stuff the right length is a mission and a half. The sizes were either miles too short or miles too long.

I have many pairs of seemingly identical (except for colour) Dockers in 34/30 -- some are big enough that I have to wear a belt to stop them falling down and some I can't even do the buttons/zip up. WTF is going on?

And when we were on holiday in the US recently they had some really cheap Wrangler jeans. So I took two pairs off the shelf, one blue, one black, both the same size (34/30). Tried the blue ones on and they fitted fine, so bought both of them. What do you know? Can't get my **** into the black ones

What is it with the shape of people on here

I would add though Bob that I can't find a pair of NEXT trousers/jeans/combats to fit, so never bother anymore.

Depending on brand, I can be anything from a 30/32 through 32/32 to 34/30.

Following on from Car's comments, I always ask to try on at least two or three pairs of the same size jeans due to manufacturing tolerances - usually find one to big, one too tight and one perfect.

Go figure!

(That's why I never buy jeans/trousers on line)

I bought three pairs of combats recently, all absolutely identical except for the colour, the black and khaki fit perfectly but I can barely get the grey pair done up

I have clothes in my wardrobe that cover four different sizes and all fit the same.

Its shoes and clothes.

I tried 3 pairs of identical jeans on last week, all same style/make/size but different colours. Only 1 pair fit properly.

Same with shoes, i'm a size 12 but have recently had to buy some size 11 shoes as 12 were too big. Size 12 in others can be too small.

Wierd!!

Why don't they add a bollock-size? I have one pair of 34/33s in which my pods can swing freely, yet in another they're squashed together like they're in a vice.

I know what you're talking about. A Next 36" or 38" waist is different from a Burtons 36" or 38". It's really annoying because it makes you feel better when you get into a nice 36" (having previously been 40"+ )...then when you try another brands 36" and you're leg doesn't even go in the leg hole! it pees me off.

Trousers pah - You want to try head sizes on helmets.

I have what can only be described as a fooking mahoosive Heed.

If I ever try an activity requiring head protection (Go Carts, Hover craft have been two such problem areas in the past) I always ask for their largest helmet - and the things hardly ever fit over my forehead.

I did manage to get the one from the hovver craft people on - then proceeded to fall over as the pressure on my inner ear had a very strange effect on my ability to stand up !

Cool

One word explains all your problems

PIECEWORK

Remember, if you want cheap clothes, somebody somewhere has got to sew said clothes together for considerably less than you're paying. Therefore they ain't gonna be taking their time making sure they're doing it exactly right.

As with all cliches "pay peanuts, get monkeys" was born from truth

Ah, a fellow big 'ead

If you measure around your head (going just above the ears), what diameter are you? I'm 25" inches (oo-er misses)! I was looking for decent sized sun hat (neck protection etc) for walking and holidays. I ended up having to get a Tilley on special order from a local outdoor shop. The biggest size they do (8+) fits me nicely but cost £45

I've got my own crash helmet for carting and the like.

Don't carry a tape measure everywhere - will try and remember to have a measurement tonight - update tomorrow

If I did more carting I would get me own lid (And a ******* boiler suit that accomodates my legs , shoulders and beer belly at the same time )
