Our Physics teacher was so trusting/thick he even bought in a .22 rifle for some terminal velocity experiments . (Although he may have hoped one of us would get shot 
)
I'm sure they wouldn't be allowed to do that today.

I remember the days when you could still use conc sulphuric as a drying agent, and we were allowed to make nitro benzine and savour its delicious marzipan aroma before benzine was banned from the classroom!
