The Slow Boat is an excellent Chinese restaurant nr the town centre. Atractively styled in red brick above a Safeway..... but superb once you're inside.

Brillient Italian in Chester is Pastarazzi Ristorante on Grosvenor Street.Reservation required tho.
Drinking in Jones wine bar is cool.Live bands over the weekends.Telfords is another place with live bands over the weekends to go.Brannigans is like a pub/club.You can eat there too.Gets very very crowded over the weekend though.
Dont know if you two are into clubbing.RNB night club( used to be known as Rosies) caters for all ages and all kinda music on different floors.Chavs are usually on the dance music zone so you are better off avoiding it
have a good time

Ecky thump...is that still there? (both the slow boat and the Safeway) I was a student there nearly 20 years ago, and it was a damn good place for nosh then (no - not Safeway!)

doing the culture thing, walking round the Roman Wall is interesting; the cathedral's worth a visit - and of course, window shopping in the Rows.

(and all the above are FREE !!)

Nice one chaps, thanks for the recommendations!

Obviously, as much time will be spent in our swanky (at least I hope it is!) suite that we've booked at the Green Bough Hotel. Please don't tell me that is a hell hole!

We're eating in the Olive Tree restaurant they have there on one of the nights. Sounds good on paper.

Keep the ideas coming

The only decent place to go on a night out is bar lounge. Not full of idiots who want to fight all the time. Also has the benefit of waitress service when you have finished your pint!

Thumbs up

Dutton's wine bar is quite a good place to eat / drink during the day. Not been into Chester at night so don't know what the places are like.

Wink

If you have 45 mins to spare, take a tour bus. I have lived near Chester all my life, and worked here for 16 years, took my 5 yr old on one the other week and found out loads of interesting stuff I never knew!

Sad aren't I?

I've lived around Chester since forever, and it's not a bad place. Used to work there, and went to college there too.

Wouldn't go anywhere near Rosies on a Friday/Saturday night, unless you like places that are full of idiots. Bar Lounge's pretty good.

There's plenty to do in the day from the usual sightseeing stuff to shopping and eating. If it's nice you can go for a drink by the river, plenty of pubs along there (places like Old Orleans and the Boat House). If it's raining the you can just walk along the rows to get places which is pretty handy.

Chris.

Slight corection; the Cathedral is now £4-50 per person to go in! You could take the road out of Chester and head towards Neston way. Couple of nice pubs that way. You could also drive to Wallasey (about 20 miles away) and take the ferry 'cross the Mersey to Liverpool.

Dock complex well worth a visit and the city is a seriously happening place.

BTW, North Wales is only a few miles away from Chester (hint hint) and also well worth a visit for good country pubs and amazing scenery (the sheep look swell on a good day )

Enjoy.
