Hope someone can help ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Got a mate who's going to be visiting Toronto on business soon and what she's wonderingis, which is the better area to stay in, downtown or the harbour?
Also if anyone would know of any ranch type places that would be worth staying in for a night or 2?
TIA
Andy

The missis had an apartment at Queen Street/McCaul when she worked out there.
Queen street is the bohemian centre of the city and stuffed with shops and trendy bars. It's also an easy (underground mostly) walk to the downtown office blocks.
Toronto = Fantastic place.![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Edited to add - If she's only there a week or two then the Royal York hotel should be near the top of her wish list, especially if the company are paying![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Ranch type places? in Toronto? Umm, bit too built up for that ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Downtown and the Harbour area are fairly close to each other (prob no more than 15 min walk or 5 min cab ride)
Where is she going to be working whilst in TO? downtown or outside the core? Just wondering as getting in and out of the core can be a pain in the evening and morning.
Point your friend at this site. Should give her all the info she needs.
I expect Jerome will pop up in a mo and have a few things to say too

Markus,
Thanks for the link... I've passed it on to her
I've asked her where she's going to be working but haven't heard a reply yet. She did ask earlier what anyone had heard of the Strathcona Hotel on York St and what it was like? Don't know whether that would indicate where she may be working or not?
Cheers
Andy

Looks like it's pretty downtown, near the ACC (Air Canada Center).
One would have thought if she is over there on business they'd put her somewhere near to where she's working, for example, they would not put here in the downtown core if she was working in Mississauga (where I work, and very close to the airport, about 30 - 40 mins fom downtown TO)

OK, well downtown is good, probably where you'd want to be. There's shopping, eating, clubbing, all that kind of stuff. Niagara falls is about an hour 1/2 drive away.

The Entertainment District is worth visiting. This site is not bad for finding bars/clubs etc.
About the only touristy things to do are the CN Tower and Niagara Falls (45 minutes drive if you don't want a hefty fine
). In the unlikely event she is into Ice Hockey, there is the Hockey Hall of Fame - full of people unknown outside North America.
Personally I wouldn't bother with the clubs. Even a supposedly hip and trendy upmarket place (Schmooze) was a meat market full of lairy drunks (male & female). The ordinary bars are open late enough as it is (2.00am).
When she gets here, she should pick up a free copy of Now, which is a bit like Time Out (but in tabloid sized newspaper format). They are available inside just about ever bar and on street corners in metal box thingies.
