When my dad got in to weight training he did it seven days a week for a few hours at a time. Although he gained a clear definition there was no real muscle gain. He then spoke to a friend who competed to a high level and he told him to work out a max of four times a week.

Sure enough the results were clear within a couple of weeks. Not too sure whether this carries over to general fitness mate.

When I trained to an international level in rowing, I used to train every day, sometimes more than once, with a day off every few weeks. That said, it's one of those sports where you need to , or you don't get results.

I'd go with Tiggs on that one tbh. Train, unless you're knackered and don't feel like it. But not too much. Don't tire yourself out in the first few days like many people do then give up altogether.

LOL thanks for that because i dont exercise and my body keeps telling me i'm tired, does that mean i'm just " horizontally challenged" fookin hope so

Seriously, as a beginner whats the best way to get fit ie walking, cycling, gym, swimming (although swimming will be a bit visually disgusting to all who are in range)

I'd say one of the best ways'd be to start running. It may be hard to start off with, but if you really can't do it, walk, and do the odd bit of running at say, 2 or 3 minute intervals.

If you can cycle to work - i.e, if it's at all practical, then that's not a bad way to do it either. Running burns more calories in teh same amount of time though.

Have fun

Ah well. That was two years ago I last did an international event, which I won, in fact, but I'm still training up to a point. I don't do it up to the same level now though, as it takes up far too much time

I'm sure fitness helps the windy boarding though, especially when you end up inside a wave and have to resist taking a breathfull of green salty water You wouldn't be familiar with that would you?

Maybe right about knackering the joints and running tbh I'd stick with cycling to work

I joined a gym just under 2 months ago now, and from doing very little exercise to going 5 times a week (monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and saturday), I can say that by thursday you want a day off....saturday is still a bit tiring, but by monday again I'm fresh. It works for me (lost 2 stone and dropped from 40+" waist to 36")
