Unhappy Errrrm, you see - I fell overboard and now it's BUST!!

Been away for a few days .........

Whilst sunning myself on my boat, I fell overboard ..... NO!! No-one pushed me!!

Anyway, I had my mobile round my neck (under my T shirt) ...... the water wasn't deep at that point, about 4 foot ...... so, within about 10 seconds I was stood up and took my mobile off.

It couldn't have got very wet at all ...... merely a little damp ...... anyway, the bloody thing won't work!!

I played a hair dryer over it within a few hours ........... its thoroughly dried out but refuses to turn on .........

Anyone any ideas as to what I can do to get it working again??

Pete

ps. It's an LG C1100 ............................ all it does is light up it's RED LED

If 100% dried out, then probably duff....had a Nokia once on which a power amp failed due to moisture damage (hadn't been in water at all!), and given it was surface mount, only thing they offered to do was replace the whole pca. SMT repair beyond them. Replacement of pca was same price as new phone.

A scientist of your experience will surely realise; that it was f*cked a fraction of a second after it got wet. You may be able to rescue it with a PCB cleaner but I wouldnt hold out much hope.

I had a Motorola 8800 it was f*cking brilliant. I also had (and still have) an International 3200 which was the GSM version and it has the best reception of any GSM phone Ive used.

Run some distilled water through it then let it dry naturally for about 3-5 days if it doesn't work after that it never will.

A PCB cleaner might bring it back to life. I understand that the boards can be short circuited by mineral deposits after immersion. Being turned off doesnt really help though as a phone isnt really off and even if it were immersion would short the contacts.

I jumped in the pool (see I can get a flash reference in as well) with my old Nokia in my pocket, made some strange noises but I left it dismantled on a tea towel for a week and it powered up good as gold to live another couple of months until I smashed it to bits having a row with the missus.

My 3510 nokia got a full 40 degree wash cycle when the housekeeper neglected to notice the bulge in my pants.

Amazing to say, but after a couple of weeks of drying out it actually got back to working perfectly, sadly a day after I bought a Moto Razr V3.

Life is harsh sometimes - I'll sell you my clean nokia if you like - £75 to you

Also remove the SIM for a while as it's an interface that won't like water or dampness...

all depends on whether you fell into salt water or freshwater.

I imersed my Nokia in fresh water, stripped it and run it under a tap then left it to dry for a few days. It's still going strong 3 years later.

I agree.

My phone took a plunge into the sea and the phone was completely beyond repair. The salt water was electrolysed and the circuit board turned into a frothy mess in a matter of seconds!

I have seen phones recover from a dunking in freshwater though, so long as you remove the battery immediately and leave to dry for a couple of days.

p.s. thought you were leaving you clumsy old fool!

PMSL

I dropped one in the khazi before and as above dismantled let it dry naturally and it worked perfectly and went on to live a long and happy life before dying of natural causes rather than being murdered as above

If you fell into salt water it will have multiple short circuits. If you switched it on while damp it will most likely have fizzed a few chips. You could try the distilled water trick as mentioned or pcb cleaner but if it wont work after that-sling it. Mobile phones are incredibly susceptible to the wet.
