Default Drink problem

As a few of the Muppets know I'm new to the forum I thought I'll give this a try because I see a few people ask for personal advice on her and they seem to get a good response.

My mum has a drink problem and spends too much time on the internet because she has taken over my PC I can't surf scoobynet as much as I'll like to so I'm out driving my recently purchased MY99.

Buy her a case of of absinthe - then when she's unconscious, you can use your computer.

and your problem is?

I'd rather be out and about in a decent car than sat festering in front of a PC. Just leave her to it. What does the old fella say?

When you say she has a drink problem, is it the quantity of alcohol she consumes or rather the effect it has on her?

How much does she drink?
How is her behavoir when inebraited? agrressive/irrational?
How often does she have these "male freinds" around?
What do her friends/other family think?

Sounds like a very sorry situation to be in.

Sid.

I like a beer like the next man

I enjoy coming in from work, going to the gym if its that night (3 or 4 times a week), then coming home, having my dinner with a nice cold bottle of stella, then settling down !

Weekends at the moment at usually a washout unless i really have to behave !

Some say i have a drink problem

Personally, I don't think that is an amount to worry about, but it is a slippery slope.

The problem is her lack of self esteem. She is the only one who can help herself really. It's you I feel sorry for Parents often forget who the child is.

Reading that again, you mean 1 to 2 bottles a night, don't you!!

2 bottles of red wine a night is excessive, but I wouldn't say she is an alcoholic. Its when the super strength lagers come into play that you should start worrying.

Half a bottle of wine in a night is considered binge drinking under the governmentt's current guidelines. That's 3 standard pub measures - just to put things in to context.

If she can't go a night or two without it then she has a complusion. There is nothing much you can do it about except drop some subtle, and not so subtle, hints. It's whatever is causing her to drink that needs to be addressed first.

For the booze AA doesn't work for everyone (and RAC were crap for my Uncle's drink problem ), but there are plenty of other SELF-help groups. The emphasis is on self because she is the only one that can truly seek it.

The government must go to some pretty mean pubs. Pub measures for wine round here are always 175 ml (just under 1/4 bottle) or 250 ml (1/3 bottle).

Standard measure should be 125ml, should get 6 glasses from a standard 750ml bottle.

Wine sold by the glass must be sold only in measures of 125ml, 175ml or multiples of these measures. Wine sold by the glass must be sold in stamped glasses or by way of stamped measuring equipment.

Yes, so 175ml and 250ml are OK (250ml being a multiple of 125ml).
