I wouldnt bother. HDTV will be out next year, so save up your pennies for one of those sets plus the 'special' sky box needed to view satellite

Personally, I am very impressed with the LCD HD TV's. Although they need to come down in price a little . . . http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=91509

But he's asking for recommendations on a TV that supports HD, right now.

They are available and quite good prices at the mo, too.

Panasonics are ahead of near enough every Plasm HD out there, but are a bit more costly. The Samsung PS42S5H is also good, especially for the money....which i'm considering. Either that or a DLP and if the money will stretch, a Panasonic, but not sure i can mange it.

Pioneer and Panasonic is the way to go. Only reliable Plasmas on the market IMO. Panasonic Viera is my recommendation. Looking at about £2.5k maybe a smidge more but its guarenteed to be a quality set.

HD TV wont be out til next year, and even then it'll be on only 1 or 2 channels for testing on. it'll be at least 2 years before its distributed via enough channels to get the benefits off.... Dont know what everyone is worrying about at the minute.

I heard Sky are launching 7 HD channels next year, one sport, one movie etc. BBC n ITV will then follow much later on.

Pic of new STB - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds23159.html
FAQ - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds19617.html

Looking at the pic of the STB, it has Sky+ functionality, so it must have a massive HDD in it, as HDTV requires a shedload more space for storage?

very nice looking box but come on, its been made on the cheap by Thomson. Not exactly the best quality is it think I'll be waiting a while before I part with my hard earned to get another dodgy product from someone like sky

My mate has just bought a LG 27" HD LCD which is circa £750

Very Impressive picture even on standard digital PAL/DVD source (once he replaced the crappy £1.99 scart with a decent one ). Very good response rate and viewing angle for a large LCD too Has every AV connection known to man on the rear too

Makes the old man's non HD plasma and my CRT look a bit pants now...my eyes can't help focusing on the individual screen pixels and the interlacing

Crap sound though, Seperate Av amp/surround is a must. But it does have variable volume Pre-outs (like cars radios) so you could whack on a basic power-amp instead.

Panasonic Vieras are definitely the way to go. There is no competition. (Pioneer maybe)

The PWD6 isnt a bad screen. remember though thats only a monitor... cant plug and play with it. you'll need a set top box like sky/ntl or a digi box to pick up any channels and you dont have speakers so a seperate amp etc is needed. Theyre not like a normal telly (unlike the Panasonic Veira) For that cash I would have thought youd be able to find the PW7.... Just had a look and yes you can on the same site... the 7th generation is much better than the 6.

If budget is extendable this is my recommendation, this includes tuner etc etc

http://www.av-sales.co.uk/proddetail...00B-PED&cat=33

If its just the monitor your after (like the 1 you just posted) try the PWD8... Its the latest 1 they do, basically the Viera but without the tuner and speakers. Very competitively priced IMO

Thanks for the links Dave
I was going to use Sky plus as the tuner & I have seperate amp speakers sub etc for sound !!

Apparently I need a Scart Box for the one I suggested at £150 ish !

So not sure what to do !

I have a 32" Tosh telly at mo which is fine just fancied a plasma at the right price

Whats wrong with Richer Sounds. Ive bought a few things from them and had excellent prices and customer service when something went wrong.

Yeah like I say theyre a basic monitor, then you have to buy connection cards for multiple ways of connecting to it, Bit of a pain really but theyre designed for more use than just in the home (i.e. Business panels etc so made on the budget with the Viera being the 1 designed for home use)

I have the older Panasonic Viera (non HD ready) not partically bothered about it either, nothing Im going to be needing any time soon. Although that set me back £2k at the time but love it, couldnt possibly go back to CRT. Id defo recommend 1. Should be able to get it at a good price now with the latest stuff coming out. Its the equivelant of the PWD7....

Go for it, you wont be dissapointed unless you skimp on the connections.

Id suggest getting a monitor-type plasma display like this... Analogue terrestrial television will have been discontinued long before end of the screens life, so having an in-built receiver isnt much of an advantage. Most people spending £1,000 as a minimum on a display are likely to be using an A/V amplifier too.....
