Question Scrappies?

My girlfriends 106 finally died this weekend due to the gearbox going south and some electrical problems. (N reg with 89k on)
It now wont drive and she's had enough and wants it to be scrapped.
I intend to ring around a few "scrappies" tomorrow and see what they score is re picking it up and taking it away etc...
What kind of process should this follow?
Presumably she declares it SORN?
Is there a cost to me for them collecting or should I be expecting money off them?
Do they need the V5 etc?
Any information welcomed so I sounds savvy when I call them tomorrow
Thanks
P

You will be paying them to dispose of it. Even if you got it to the scrap yard yourself you would still have to pay for it.

I believe you have to inform the DVLA that you are no longer in possesion of the vehichle rather the SORN, and obviously the relevant part of the V% will go to the scrappy.

They call it Ebay nowadays !

Seriously, advertise it on there, be very honest, slag it off, you WILL get bids, its amazing, until you have sold something you dont know the reasoning of the person buying it, theres usually a reason you hadnt thought of.

The Chinese are buying scrap so prices have gone up. I don't think you will have to pay them even if they pick it up.

Got £60 for a mates mondeo, minus £8 cos it still had it's tyres on and apparently they have to pay to dispose of them, this was at the local scrap metal merchants.

seriously stick it on e-bay.

We have a 106 that was fit for scrapping but we've managed to get a few bits that we needed on e-bay so its being fixed.

We were not the only bidders for the 106 stuff either so might be worth a try?

If you've got the space to keep it list things like the interior, door's, bumpers etc.
You never know what someone might be looking for?

Cheers guys
I wont do the ebay thing, time is of the essence as she's upset at the demise of the 106 and is keen to get shut asap.
Julian - thanks for the info - The car is in above average condition for an N reg as far as interior and bodywork goes but the electrics for the petrol gauge are a bit dodgy (needle only shows true petrol reading now and again £200 quote to fix at that place on Jackson Street) and the gear box now wont go into anything other than 2nd...
Making money isnt the plan really just a cheap / free disposal, we'll get 5 months of road tax back when we return the disc and we bought an 03saxo yesterday to replace the 106...
Thanks folks! I'll ring around tomorrow and see whats what...

Job done... Sir Julian repaired said vehicle for the price of some magic beans and a gnu and has it back on the road - his female chum now owns said car and my missus picks up her new saxo tomorrow.
So a public thankyou to Sir Julian.. My missus is happy that her first car has gone to a good home and not the dumpster in the sky
