Didn't get too loud here, loads of lightning though. Rains pretty much stopped now but can still here the thunder rumbling away in the distance.

No storm here yet

Water does attenuate signals in the satellite TV frequency band a bit, they should have allowed for it in the link budgets though I guess if the dish is soaked in water as well that doesn't help. Anyway best to disconnect it, if the dish is struck by lightening then all your kit (Sky+ box, TV, video, DVD player, home cinema, etc.) will be fried.

I'm on cable

Mine's halfway up the house. Nowhere near as high as the roof. Unlike the TV antenna which sticks out the top (I've disconnected it anyway -- no need for UHF any more).

Heavy rain will knock the signal off, but have not noticed thunder to have an effect yet.

Weird thing is, it went off a good few minutes before the rain. There was a distant rumble of thunder, then off it went. Turned the box off and back on, still didn't work so I went outside to check the dish and as I was outside, the first few drops of rain fell.

Sky is crap in bad weather. It only has to look like rain and the system freezes. You have to turn it off for 30 seconds then take the card out for 1 min and restart to get it working again. Wish I had cable where I live.

Maybe there was a static charge which affected the lnb in the dish. There can be a big static build up without a lightning strike.

Or good weather, rain or shine my system will lock up spontaneosly or drop words (usually at a really crucial time). Funny how I can still pick up the cheap channels that no-one watches UKFarmers Gold +2 or some other crap.

I honestly don't know why I still pay for this "Service".

Sounds like your dish could be out of alignment. It may be favouring Eurobird which is .3 degrees east of the astra satellites, so try swinging it west first. If you can get up there with a ladder it's easy enough to do yourself - get the missus to shout up the signal level!

My signal breaks up in the heavy rain too - i guess a bigger dish or more sensitive LNB would be the way forward but it doesn't happen too often.

I used to get "no sat signal received" so I called up Sky and asked the guy to come and relaign the dish.

Did wonders - I haven't had it go off for well over a year now.

No panic, just annoyance as I was watching Bad Boys 2 on Sky Movies and I've tried to watch it about 5 times and never managed to watch it all the way through

Anyway, I just switched from heroin (TV) to crack (internet)

Get a bigger satellite dish, dont get that problem in Scotland, although Sky provides us with bigger dishes anyway.
