Unhappy And yet another Boeing 737 crash !

Mandala airlines B373 (of which they have 13 x 200 series and 2 x 400 series) Crashed in Indonesia shortly after take-off from Medan. Over 100 people on board. The prospects for survivors doesn't sound good.

Bit of a worry really, wonder if the aeroplane is getting past it. Or are they cutting corners on servicing!

I don't think the planes are getting past it, 737 is one of the most common and widely used so statistically it's more likely to be involved in a crash.

Secondly there has been a proliferation of airlines around the world. Previously where places had 1 or 2 national carriers there are now maybe a dozen budget airlines and some of these countries will be less regulated than others, will cut maintenance, possibly use counterfeit parts etc.

And the third thing is that this one could also be open to speculation that something more sinister caused the crash. The governor of North Sumatra and Aceh were on board, certainly some would have motives to get rid of them.

I'm shocked that there were actually some survivors.

As Kiwi says, there are many issues with 3rd world operators so teh cause won't be immediately obvious

Seriously hope it's the latter Les. I'm taking one of these beauties to Jersey in October.......Hopefully BMIbaby are a tad better at looking after their fleet.

The 737 has one of the best safety records going.

I would say it's more a case of slack maintenance schedules. IMO
