Default Pot hole - success!

Wahey! Finally got my pothole trauma sorted two weeks ago

Back in May, I hit a pothole which broke an alloy, knackered a tyre, bent a wishbone, knackered a bush and broke a spring on my 330 coal powered tosserwagen. Total repair was 652 quid and that's using independent specialists, and a second hand wheel. God only knows what would have happened if I'd have used BMW! Read all about it here, if you're bored.

I spoke to the council, and also went to see the contractors as they're just up the road. Wrote to them, wrote to them again, got a response saying they're looking into it (oh, hoho, looking in to a pot hole), and a month later, they offered to settle for £575 whilst not admitting liability.

So, perseverance and an amiable yet "no messing" approach worked out, thankfully. No "lies", no "get a friend to report it as well", no runaround...

Just thought people might like to hear that it is possible to get compensation for someone putting a daft trench in a road and filling it negligently (in my eyes).

Cheers,
Nick.

Well done, its the only way to get them to actually mend the roads now.

Funnily enough, the bloke from Leeds city council who I spoke to said that he's just bought a set of steel rims for his car as he's fed up of trying to deal with potholes in the area.

Blimey, what sort of hope does that give?

The good news is that this payment was direct from the contractors, so it's not like it's taken anyone's council tax (or mine) to sort it out

Great result, really pleased for you.

I'm going through a compensation claim with Metrobus after a bus drove at me head on and forced me to mount a kerb to avoid an accident. I reported it (and the damage to my wheel) to the bus company immediately who were sympathetic, but would not admit liaibility.
I won't let this one go - I should not have to pay for a new wheel because some tosser bus driver wanted to prove that his bus was bigger than my car.

The police are getting involved now as I've reported him for driving without due care and attention, so we'll see if that helps my case.

Makes me wish I claimed for the broken curbstone in the road that I hit while back, No geometry or tyre damage but both front and rear rims look a bit battle scarred now
