Abandoned cars
Before the price of scrap metal dropped, it seemed like you could take any old banger to the scrap yard and get £50. Now it seems like they want payment to take them away. Result? Abandoned cars in lay-bys, dumped in lakes etc.
No-one like to pay more for things, but if an extra say £100 was added to the price of a new car, to be redeemed from the govt when it is scrapped, it would solve the abandoned car problem as any car would have an inherent value.
It would take a while for this scheme to filter through, but once established it would reduce/stop the problem.
Would it work? Does anyone have any better ideas?
