Question How to choose a tennis racket?

Going to have my first lesson at the weekend. Chap who is coaching told me to make sure my index finger and thumb don't overlap when gripping the racket. Is this true? I only went to a high store and they did'nt have a single racket(out of 50) that fitted that criteria. My hands are'nt unusually large so I'm a little confused

They generally make the grips on the small side as you can easily make them bigger.

Either remove the existing grip, build up the handle with gauze tape to the required thickness and put a new grip on or you can just put a new grip over the old one if that doesn't make it too thick for you.

Deep,

I usually have to build up the grip on my rackets. Try getting a handle that is already L4 or L5 IIRC in size. If it's you're first racket, don't be blinded by science or price. Just buy one that feels good. Smaller local sports shops often have demo rackets that you can try before buying.

And make sure you don't go too large. Having a grip open more than needed may contribute to "tennis elbow".
As Matt says, go for a small grip and build it up.
