Across Canada by rail
I'm going on one of these rail tours all the way across Canada. Has anyone done one of these? Lasts about 12 days. Just looking for any travel tips if anyone's done it, or even spent this amount of time on a train.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks.

Done Vancouver to Jasper. Absolutely gobsmacking scenery , how DID they build that railway? Be prepared to slow RIGHT down, those trains do not bat along like the Japs. But it was such a relaxing experience. I'm not known for sleeping whilst travelling (even transatlantic flights!), and I slept like a baby on that train. I do hope you enjoy it. Take your camera.

Did the 2 day Rocky Mountaineer rail trip from Banff to Vancouver on my way out to OZ (almost a year ago now ).
As already said the scenery is fantastic. If you get chance to stop in the region Lake Louise is stunning
but not as good as the Moraine Lake that's just around the corner

Wow! Great pics . I just won a holiday through work (so not a dodgy deal ) for 4 nights in a top hotel in Toronto, and I can't wait! Going to go to Niagara Falls, up the CN tower and maybe try and go to an ice hockey/baseball game if there's one on. Never been outside of Europe so really looking forward to it.

In my younger days I drove from downtown Toronto to downtown Vancouver and then back to Banff Springs. I looked at the map and thought it would take about 5 days ended up taking 11
Lovely drive, I'd imagine it would be 100 times better by train though.

Niagara...
Better from the Canadian side and you'll get soaked if you do the Lady of the Mist trip. Pics from the Skytower on the Canadian side.

Thanks again. The CN tower looks great. I'll deffo be up that. I've actually already been to Niagra - years ago I travelled round the east coast of the states and got as far north as the Canadian side of the falls.

As Brendan says... that's the only down side, you're doing the trip same as we did..... Back to front ! I cried when the mountains began to disappear into the distance behind us.
