Thumbs up Long Way Roung - just finished watching it - superb!

Just finished watching 'Long Way Round' docunemtary on Sky Plus. (Ewan McGreggor and Charlie Boorman riding round the world on bikes).

Been hooked since the first episode - what a great bit of tv!

Anyone else watched it?

I imagine the series will have created some interest in others doing the same - anyone done so or planning to?

Sky showed a new episode recently where Ewan and Charley recalled their journey.

And so it should. Architect Elspeth Beard rode around the world solo over 20 years ago on an old Triumph. That's a woman on an old british bike with NO backup at all. Now that's what I call an achievement.

It's what Charley Boorman thought too. On a recent promotional visit to the UK he was particularily keen to meet her and pay his respects.

Well if she had made a TV series and DVD I probably would have been just as complimentary and I ride dirt bikes every week and know how hard it is to ride off road mile after mile , never mind day after day and week after week .
It just hers is a bigger achievement but not as well publicised

Loads of people have done it and documented it with far less backup:

http://www.motochallenge.com/books-videos/

His last 12 part TV series, ‘Global Rider,’ documented his journey around the world visiting motorcycle luminaries such as Bernd Tesch in Germany, Paolo Volpara in Turkey, Elspeth Beard in the UK and the late Robbie Marshall.
They're just not attention seeking celebs.

I wouldn't disagree. I'm planning on watching it as soon as I get a chance. I love off road two wheeled activity in all it's forms as much as you do.

Just sayin'... that's all...

just because someone else has done it in the past with less or no backup doesnt detract from their achievement or the fact that it makes for excellent watching

Hats (or helmets!) off to them all

Best bit of TV in a long time. Was a bit dubious when I saw the first trailer but me and the mrs got hooked although we missed two episodes.

Mrs got me dvd & the book for xmas. Both were excellent.

I have both as well.

If you liked the DVD then buy the book as it gives a lot more insight into what the guys were thinking and the amount of planning required.

Cheers

Watched the whole series last Christmas (a couple of days after) on the sofa with beer, snacks and the quilt. A top lounging day and top TV. Ewan's forehead looked a bit large after that mozzy bite !!!

Cool

Also, the other people who went round the world did it in years, not months. I'm not sure many of them went up the road of bones either, riding round the world is one thing, riding through Siberia is another.

It is a great achievment, even if they did have to receive assistance. Jeez, even some of those Russian all wheel drive lorries got stuck!

Well I would like to see some off the critics ride an 100kg off road bike for more than half a day , let alone a 250kg BMW for weeks on end , they would see what an achievement it really was then

p.s. If you haven't seen the TV series or the DVD , do yourself a favour ignore all the jealous cynicism and watch it , its the best thing I have seen on the TV in years
