My Scoob is fixed, but got fired Monday! Who knows about unfair dismissal?
At last the rear end has been re-built after 4 weeks of the car being off the road. However, I got fired on Monday for not attending an incentive weekend that I had won!
I was told that it was an adventure day, but when the details came through, it was a whole weekend, which I did not want to do as it was my girlfriends 30th Birthday and I was taking her out. Told the boss and she said I should go, but I said no, then on the Monday after, she fired me. I have exceeded my targets every month since starting, back in May, but can't sue for unfair dismissal as I have not been there a year yet. It seems so wrong, as my CV will now have that I worked for a company a short time and got dismissed. How can a 44 year old man get a job now?
Anyone on here know what action I can take against them?

Look for a company that specialises in employment law. Theyll advertise in the Yellow Pages; you might find one in the situations vacant section of your local paper on jobs day too, but Im not sure that the ambulance chasers are the best option.
You have very few rights if youve only worked there for a short while, Im afraid.

Crikey!
Fired for not attending during non-work hours. Of what actually wasn't even actual "work" in the first place????
How bizzare...bad time of the month?
Citizens advice bureau maybe a idea for a first visit.
Do you have a contract of employment?
A work collegue at a place I used to work who was unfairly dismissed after working for approx 8 months there (situation stank so much I quit myself ) successfully won his case beacuse of it breaching the terms of his employment contract.

Say that she was making sexual References to you as well, and that put you off going for a weekend, as you thought that she was going to try it on, and she was Jealous cause it was your girlfriends birthday and you would be spending time with her.
As sti-04 said "Revenge"

gutted for you mate.
i got fired from a job years ago (best thing that ever happened to me )
1 week shy of my years employment for gross misconduct. The reason: I had been over helpful to a client and had given advice and time which the boss said was not in my job description and so bye bye. He didnt like me anyway and was just looking for an excuse.and of course 1 week shy of the 12 months is still 1 week, so no rights, no appeal .
and dont worry about your age (44) is not old for the job market. remember experience and credentials mean a lot more these days.
If you want to keep a clean CV, make up some other employment to cover the time between may and now, get a mate to offer references and get back out there
I have done it for a few mates who didint want to mess up their cv's (helps I am the boss of my own company) but we all needa break sometimes.
Good luck mate...

Buggered Im afraid, although worth putting it in writing to you ex-employers, and seeking legal advice.
IMHO if a company does that to you assuming this the only reason, you wouldnt want to work for them anyway, best out it IMHO

all the rules here; http://www.dti.gov.uk/er/individual/....htm#whocannot
check out the notes section, there may be a bit of a get-out from your less-than-one-year if you can asign to one of the reasons given.

I reckon your best bet would be the newsdesk for the Sun / Mirror - I'm sure they'd love this .
Good luck with the Next Job.
And Well done for a 30 year old g/f

Employment law is a pain in the ******* **** when you are tyring to get rid of a waste of space, but it is there for situations like this when you have been well and truly shafted. Your boss...is she called Eileen by any chance?...because it sounds like she doesn't have a leg to stand on!
And as far as I know, it doesnt matter if you havce worked there 1 week or 1 year.

Ignoring the actual sacking part.
Has anyone got any idea on how to get round the issue of explaining to a potential employer why you left a job with nothing to go to. (I am in that situation.) My previous company have verbally agreed to give a reference based on "my work standard" But when I had an interview recently I told the guy that I left for "financial reasons and the job was very boring and I've just been unlucky with the job market so far" which although it was I could tell he was thinking "I bet he was fired, I wonder what for"
Any suggestions? As the longer it goes on, the worse I fear it could end up.
Related question : Would a Potential employer appreciate honesty in this situation. Or would that be a BAD idea

Thing is its probably not good to be negative against your previous employer. Treat it as a "change of direction" for some (positive) reason

I'd also look at the breach of contract angle - how much power do they have for keeping you over a weekend?
BTW, I find it a bit academic, as I don't think I'd want to work for them in the future...
