Default People who just leave a job without saying

anybody ever done it???

nipped out today for sum tickets for the flix tonight
got a call to say that one of my lads had threw his boots onto next doors roof and fecked off

he has been arguing with another lad for a few days, he has been fine with me, tbh i have bent over backwards to help him through sum personal problems which pisses me right off

i was told by somebody else he had booked himself in for a college course, full time apparently, he never told me at all, the past few days hes been in a ****e mood, always been fine with me, but hes been snapping with the other lad, told me last night that he was not happy with this lad, and he was sorry for arguing with him in front of me, said that if he could not get along with him then he might as well leave, why he just didnt tell me he was going to college i will never understand

so i told him
"if your going to leave then do the decent thing and give me sum notice"
"no probs mick, i dont have a problem with you, i wont let you down"

he got his wages today, hes supposed to be working till 7.30pm tonight, nope, hes gone, never left his key been rushing around trying to get sum replacement bullet locks for the main doors, managed to get a lend of a new set for a few days

had to reschedule sumbody tomorrow morning for the following saturday, bit of a pain in the **** TBH

was quite lucky in that i had planned to get sumbody in part time at weekends "just in case" he messed me about, and i have a lad in for interview tomorrow,

so

have you ever walked out a job and never said anything/went back
have to say ive never done it myself ,

I've not done it, but somebody I worked with did. Just didn't come in, had the works laptop at home. Wouldn't answer the phone, never in when we called round. Finally caught up a couple of weeks later an recovered the kit. Never really got an explanation or an apology.

Well not to tell you how to run your business. But why dont you call this guy and ask him about these rumours you've heard about him leaving.

He may still come in tomorrow, and next week.

EDIT

re: the reference. Its up to you really. Id personally just say he worked here and his work was OK. Brief but not slanderous. Plus at the end of the day hes not your problem any more.

im told he has done this before with the previous bloke, he left, rabbited on about college and stuff, spent a few weeks in the real world then came crawling back asking for his job back.

i have had no real problems with him TBH
he is nearly always in before his start time, he did mess me about when i first took over but thats life when sumbody new is in charge.

his phone is switched off anyway, hes not coming back as far as i concerned, hence why i have changed the locks.

he might come in tomorrow, but he will be turned away, been downgraded to a "knobber" in my mind now

lets hope the new boy is decent enough, found him on a message board sumwhere and im checking his old posts, all 3000k of them

We had a guy start with us once and three days later he went to Tescos for lunch and never came back.

Wouldn't accept any calls from us either, weird.

sort of, I got fed up in a pub I used to work at becuase the landlady was a total ****. She was a hideous creature, she would sit at the bar hoiking up greenies, then she would swallow them down with a swig of lager :barf: - I dont even think she realised she was doing it!

I waited till they went away and the reliefs came in, then spent my last night getting completely wankered behind the bar, and serving free drinks most of the vault. When the dozy relief landlord eventually cottoned on what was happening he escorted me off the premises and put me in a taxi.

Next week, the original landlord rang me up and offered me my job back

When i was 17 i got a job in a butchers and i worked the monday till thursday but i hated it. Dont know why i dident just quit or tell the guy it wasent for me. What i did do was on my lunch break tell them i was just nipping out to drop my video back to the shop but really i just hoped on my bike and dident go back. The problem i dident see or think of at the time was the owner of the place was ringing my mam to see if i had arrived home and thought id been knocked down and killed going to the shop or something. I dident go home till later that night because i was thinking of what to say to my folks. I was in the sh*ts when i did get home though.

As far as the reference is concerned you cannot say anything negative about them, but the least you can put in is:

Date

To whom it may concern,

I confirm that (name) is/was employed as (position) with this organisation from (date) to (date/the present day), and was/is paid (salary, plus bonus and benefits as applicable).

Their job of (position) carries the following responsibilities (describe briefly the job).
Yours faithfully, etc

and that's it.

Unless it's a reference given over the telephone. Then you can say what you like, as there's no record. Remember, when you give a reference it's your reputation on the line.

You seriously telling me that I cannot tell the truth about a previous employee? Is that law? Where?

"Would you employ this person again?" - NO!

I guess the way round it is to refuse to give a reference or "I would not like to answer your request as I do not wish to say things I do not mean".

We have them all the time.

Bloke walked out for a *** break then never came back for 2 days - but he had a reason of sorts so was let back in.

When he did it again, he was surprised and tearful to find that his job had been filled in his absence.

New starter, 1/2 morning and never came back after lunch - no phone call, nothing.

Another girl just no show one morning & thats after working with us for over a month absolutely fine. Never seen us again, never called or anything. Her new employers then sent in a request for reference which I was "circumspect" in answering. She was good at the job required. Reason's for leaving - we didn't know, she never told us. Would you employ again - no.

& thats direct employees - don't start me on the couriers!!

Oh & all in the last year

Correct PTMW, you cannot give a bad reference, but what you can do is refuse to give a reference to the new company which will then make them ask the question Why ?

Reading between the lines and based solely on the amount of times you mention things like:

he has been fine with me, tbh
i have had no real problems with him TBH
....it sounds like he may actually have a problem with you, but just isn't bold enough to say it to your face, (you being the boss and all that ....) sounds like he's got you as a new boss and doesn't really like it. Has perhaps been using his 'personal problems' as a cover for 'not giving a to55', then just walks out....classic pattern of behaviour, taking it out on others etc....

Just a thought

A product of today's society. Bad manners, disrespect, and no sense of loyalty. Just normal I guess. What a sad reflection on our world.

My best friend did this to me when we used to work with each other.

Managers kept asking me where he was (as I used to drive him in as he didn't drive). I just assumed he was to ill to speak or get out of bed when he rang me just as I was leaving for the day from the airport in Zante!!!

You can imagine the stick I got from my then fellow work mates as it did leave us in the **** . But I had no idea he was leaving.

Then I went on holiday a week later and someone was sat in my desk. When I greeted them my boss came over and spoke with me and said that I was going to be moved to another office as the new guy was going to do my job. When a didn't agree (rightly so) I was then asked if I could go to the other office until they could sort something out for me (with travel expenses etc) I told them where to stick it. I did not regret that day I did it. But I had my reasons.

I don't condemn what I did as I am sure it put the rest of the guys in trouble. So I am sure he done if for a reason other than he was leaving for college?

It's not law. It is in fact complete bollocks.
