Don't worry, sooner or later we'll be in a position whereby the guy walking in front of our car with the red flag will be able to ask people to move aside whilst we pass through the puddle
Agreed though, fappin ridiculus

It's not very funny when it happens to you and your 2 toddler boys on your way to the shops and you all get completely soaked by someone who could have avoided the huge puddle!
The driver AND the pedestrians should watch out (drivers can avoid if possible, pedestrians can stop short of the puddle if the road is busy and it looks like cars won't be able to avoid), but making sure ur kids are safe walking on the pavement takes up more than most of your attention.

i think he was damn lucky-we should have zero tolerance on everything-plus he should have been made to pay court costs as well-i hope they also went over his car with a fine tooth comb to see if it was road worthy as well-maybe next time it rains he will think twice about how he drives!
a harsh lesson but one he obviously deserved!

Yes, it's not funny if it happens to you but FFS it's not the end of the world. If it happened to me I'd be shouting expletives and wanting to smack the driver upside the head, but £150, 3 points and a court case I think it's a great way of speading the tax payers money
The guy deserved a kick up the @rse, but that's about it. I think we should have public bootings or even bring back stocks and rotten tomatos

*Mischievious hat on*
Surely tho, if you are walking, it is much easier for you to watch out for them, and pre-empt that you might quite a little soggy.
A step away is much easier and safer than evasive action such as slamming your brakes on, or swerving away from the puddle which may cause a incident of far greater severity than a soaking!
*Mischievious hat off*
I can understand that if you are on the receving end it isnt much fun... but surely if the plod had to do anything about it at all, a ticking off would have been far more appropriate??
Ozzy - great idea..would you be willing to be the test dummy for the reintroduced stocks??

So he had slowed to 15 mph but what else was expected of him? To stop in the middle of the road until the pedestrian had moved or the opposite lane was clear? Emergency brake?
Someone drove into the back of me 5 weeks ago when the car infront of me unexpectedly stopped to let a pedestrian cross (not at a pedestrian crossing). If I see a puddle and a pedestrian near it then I will slow or go round it as much as is safe to do so in the situation, but I'm not risking being smashed into for the sake of someone's wet legs!
If we are going to get done for driving at 15mph through a puddle then I'm going to get my money's worth and make sure the person is utterly drenched!

I think there should be a course on how to be a pedestrian, with fines for dumb things like attempting to cross a road when there is a zebra crossing 20 feet away...

Exactly! For f*ck's sake; you haven't ever been able to drive through a puddle and soak a pedestrian.

FFS are you all blind? It's obvious why it was brought to court and why the copper was ready with the camera.
The guy SLOWED DOWN before he reached the puddle, therefore he was probably doing 31mph in a 30 prior to that, and the tax collector was following, waiting for him to speed up. The unwitting victim slowed, therefore the highwayman had to quickly think of another way of mugging him
