another paypal scam
sorry if it's sial but you can't be too carefull, got an email this morning confirming an ammount that will be taken out of my paypal account to pay for some watch that i haven't even won/bid on.
obviously this isn't the bit designed to catch you out, it's the 'dispute transaction' link that takes you to the 'paypal site' to log in and cancel the transaction.
this a fake site and i guess the scammer is obtaining your details, sounds pretty obvious as i'm typing it but the site it leads you to is a spot on copy and if you're in a hurry you won't tell the difference.
before i spotted the address wasn't www.paypal (was www.triad*something*) i noticed it wasn't a secure site aswell.
if this has done the rounds already then appoligies, but as scams go it was done pretty well. look out peeps)
question now is do i mail the email address of my 'seller' and give him abuse or will replying show my address to be active?

These criminals send out millions of emails. Replying would confirm that your email address is active & therefore worth twice as much money to them for resale. Also if you are not blocking remote images (eg with Outlook 2003), simply opening the email will confirm your email address. Replying & assuming that the reply email address is valid or that the criminals read the replies is a waste of time, you are dealing with lowlifes who deal in drugs, childporn, prostitution etc. The only way to get back at them is to waste their time. Use an anonymous secure proxy (eg www.cotse.net) & give them some fake Paypal id, about 200 should do for a start.
