Default Technics Hi-Fi problem

I've just bought a used Technics EH750 stereo and have got a problem with it - when the unit is switched on the CD drawer opens, pressing the open/ close button brings up an error message and so does pressing most other CD buttons?
I can alter the track number but whatever i do the CD doesn't play

Help

Rob

Where did you get it from?

Could be a cd stuck in there somewhere. I've got the EH790 and have had no problems with it yet.

Are you brave enough to take it apart and inspect it yourself?

You may have no option but to have it professionally repaired. Sorry i haven't been very helpful.

I've just dragged the manual out for it. In the 'common problems' section it states that 'failure to play a c.d or incorrect display could be caused by condensation. Wait for an hour and try again'.

Have you just brought it in from the cold and set it up? Just a thought.

It's not a copied CD - the problem i'm having is before the disc even loads

The tray opens on it's own, i cannot close it unless i push it in (i know i shouldn't)

After it's opened itself though it seems to want to close (you can just see a tiny bit of movement), it then seems to give up and stay open

does anyone know if any other Technics CD player will connet direct to the system (plenty for sale cheap on ebay) - its got a rectangle ribbon connector on the back

cheers
