Is without doubt Mark Tremonti!

I went to see Alter Bridge last night, and my god this man is simply the best guitarist I've heard for a long long time.
if you haven't heard any of his, creed's or Alter Bridge's suff, then you should. I really wasn't expecting him to be as god as he was, but wow.
You have to be good to have a signature model PRS

Its hard to define good, its very subjective.
Someone like Steve Vai could probably play most of the Manic Street Preachers stuff left handed - he is truely a guitar legend and for speed someone like Micheal Angelo http://www.angelo.com/ is hard to beat. indeed Mark Tremonti is on his new CD i think, there are so many others, doesn't mean I would want to listen to them all the time though!

My personal favourite is Steve Rothery from Marillion: Not technically the greatest, but I've never heard better ears for melody: Check out the solo on "Easter" or the ones on "The Great Escape" He's also very adaptable and can sound great playing any style: Blues, funk, jazz, rock, metal.
Much as I appreciate the technical wizzards like Steve Vai.... sometimes that kind of playing just leaves me cold; it kind of seems like its aimed specifically to impress guitarists "look what I can do". Joe Satriani tends to be a bit more palatable (sp?) for those who like a good melody as well as a master class in technique.

I think as a composer Vai is unbeatable when he does his own thing and doesn't try to make normal rock music with singers. He is clearly a class apart thats why he is much better known than Malmstein etc. He has a unique vision for finding melodies in layers of music that no other contempoary player has.
Hendrix is still the king though with Willie Nelson getting a special mentioned for tone and emotive playing.

Scott Phillips had a couple of good solos too, good night for music on the whole

Saw some Hendrix/Woodstock stuff on TV a couple of weeks back. Simply awesome. Almost forgotten how good he really was. Like the guitar was part of his soul. dl
