FAO Experienced ebay users please
ebay link here
I'd appreciate if some of the experienced ebay users would check over the above link for any evidence of the millions of ebay scams on the go. The camera is exactly the same as the one I bought my g/f for xmas last year. In August the camera failed but she/we have been disputing with the warranty company every since as they claim it was caused by her negligence. The battle continues with no end in sight and we figure for £90 she should buy a new camera just the same so she can take pictures during the festive season and we are under no pressure of time in challenging the repair of the other camera.
You'll appreciate with the ongoing battle and her being cameraless for months my g/f would be gutted if she was let down again and I realise this post is over cautious but please let me know if the link sets off even a small alarm bell in your head before we bid.
FWIW, it seems 100% genuine to me

It all seems pretty genuine in terms of good feedback etc. The only query I have is, after not selling anything for almost 6 months, why does he now suddenly have 2 of these cameras for sale.
I'd be tempted to drop him a mail and ask a couple of questions.

Id say genuine- no alarm bells ringing when I am looking at it.
Its good that you are being cautious! Now this IS a scam (random example of a typical scamming sh*tbag ): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2X-Pioneer-CDJ...QQcmdZViewItem
Spot the difference?

To be honest it isn't jumping out at me. It doesn't help that I don't know the item or how much one is worth. Only thing I can think is that anyone buying such a device would need two units and he makes it seem like you'll get that for $700 when in fact he want's $700 per unit?

Anyway- i reckon your original link is legit. Doesnt show any hall marks of being a scam.
If you search his completed items, he sold one on the 20th Nov and the seller hasnt left feedback yet. You could send him a message asking if its legit? May be worth a try, but other than that it looks sound to me, and i sell/buy on ebay all the time.

He's a trader, he's selling through e-bay (none of your "e-mail me on I'mascamming*******@gmail.com" stuff) and his feeedback looks OK.
Plus he can write in English.
I'd say it's legit.

He's not registered as trader. The fact he has 2 of these cameras for sale suggests they aren't his personal cameras, so technically he is a trader as far as the HMRC is concerned.
As for the advert, well it's only a cut and paste of marketing literature.
It looks OK as far as anything can be on eBay.
Personally I wouldn't buy from him as he comes from Scotland

I'm an e-bay newbie having just dipped my toe in the water last weekend and I'd personally stay well away from any auction where the bids are showing "protected ID" (or whatever it is) for all of the bids as in the Freak's link. Looks way too dodgy.

Would say 50/50 on this one - cut and paste description, account hasnt been used much in the past few months, but only as a buyer for what has been done.
Could be a hijacked account, or a bloke who has got a load of camers that fell off the back of a lorry.
What I would do is email and ask him to send you a photo of the actual camera ( after all he has two, so can easily take a pic ) - any auctions that just used product shots taken from the web always raise a few alarm bells if the seller isnt a normal dealer selling a lot on the site.

I emailed him regarding collection in person and payment in person and got the following response:
What does he mean about the postage option? Why does paypal have to enter this if we are meeting in person and making a cash transaction?
Hi there,
No problem with the buy it now, and meeting to collect. It saves the worry of postage. I can't meet on Sat, as I'm at a wedding in Manchester. I could meet you half way either this afternoon, tomorrow, friday, or sometime on sunday? I work from home so i can be really flexible with you. For ease of transaction, please select the postage option on the transaction with paypal, then I'll give you the cash back when we meet. Does that suit? Give me a call if you would like to sort this out, or email me. i'm at my desk most of the day. My mobile is 07XXXXX5 403.
thanks for the enquiry, I hope we can get this sorted soon. Remember, if anyone else bids on this item in the mean time, the buy it now option dissapears, and you'd need to bid againsts them, and close next Monday?
Cheers,
Paul.

If he has left it so you can modify the final invoice amount, I'd knock the postage off there, if not, that will be why he's offering the refund.

He wants you to pay by paypal up front so he can NOT turn up at the meet with you. You paying the postage as well means he scams even more money from you. His phone is probably stolen, and his address registered with Ebay is false.
Tell him you will pay cash on collection, and you want to see a photo of the actual camera before you agree to meet him - if he doesnt agree to either of these, walk away.

Oh, noticed you did say pay when you collect, but he conveniently side stepped that and mentioned paypal.
The auction isnt only paypal, so it will end regardless of how you pay if you use the buy it now button or have the winning bid.
I'd leave it, theres just something very fishy about it all that doesnt ring true - seems too eager to meet you as well - would you travel any distance for something selling for £100 ?

I'd offer to meet him and say you'll have the cash with you - check and double check all is okay before handing it over - tell him if you pay cash he avoids the paypal commission - if he still want's you to pay via paypal agree to meet and forget to go
