Advice on premium bonds
Hi all
I'm in the process of saving for my wedding next june, i have managed to get a spare £2k which will be needed for deposits etc about march/feb time as this money is sitting in an account is it worth putting it into premium bonds and can i get the original money back easily?
i've done a google search and got flooded with other site so dont know where to look!
Thanks
Ray

Statistically you'll get about 1 or 2 small wins for 2k in a year. Easy enough to get money in or out. You're probably better off with a high interest internet savings account, at least you can guarantee a bit more back and access is easy.

My 9 year old daughter has one bond, first month she was entered won £100.
She just won another £100 4 months later......now with that luck I am going to invest a load more in her name !!
At that age £100 is an absolute fortune in their eyes, dont have the heart to tell her that when she is old enough to drive it might cover a gallon of petrol !!

Actually its just spured me on - just signed up for £10k's worth.
With access back to your money within 7-8 days its rather more "fluid" that I thought......I thought it was 30 days so they must have changed it??

I'll let you know how good they are soon. I just invested 20k into premium bonds, so I hope to win at least a tenner. I believe they keep them for a month before entering them into the draws...so if you're only investing for a short time, perhaps it's not worth it.

Sounds lazy I know but bear with me - when you 'check' your numbers, do you have to physically check/claim etc?
I'm used to playing Lotto on-line where all I do I pay for my lines, and they will let me know when I've won etc
PS Congrats Chip, beers on you!
