![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
whats the max height a person can jump from and land on both feet safely?
watched underworld last night and these 2 vampyres dropped from a rediculous height, landed and continued walking. Got me thinking about how high you can fall from without breaking yourself.

hehe great film. loved it all. everytime there was a bit of light on Selene the dvd would be paused.
i mean in general, say if i was being chased by some chavs with baseball bats, and i was at a dead end, but there was a 15ft drop and i jumped off it in a bid to escape, would it be possible to survive it without injuries? just a general jump off a tall drop.
how high can you fall from before your knee pops out your leg or something.

30 feet, short of a miracle, would be fatal

saw a vid on putfile of some 'city jumpers' a few days ago. The guy would jump off the top of a three storey building, land on his feet, do a full roll and keep running. Three storeys would probably be 25 ft?

It's the spine that you have to worry about. You may fall from a great height, then be able to stand up and go "wow, great, I survived" only to collapse a few seconds later coz your spine has fooked up.

Cats are supposedly good at this. Read something in the paper about a study in a vets practice in New York. They surveyed all cat owners whose cats fell from apartments in high risers, logged the injuries in relation to which floor.
If memory serves me there was a very low mortality rate from ANY floor apart from cats you fell from around the 7th floor. The ones from the 7th they think had a higher mortality was due to shock and the cats being too rigid.
Even the very high floors, the cats had a much lower terminal velocity than humans and could survive impact.

i like this thread...i need hard facts and data though...all those high chuteless falls were cushioned in some way or another werent they and were million to one...
ive heard that paratroopers, and there must be some airborne on here to confirm/deny this, when fully equipped land with the equivalent impact of a 25-30 foot drop...?
admittedly, DZs are usually on softish ground, but they are trained to absorb the impact with a para roll...was taught it myself when i did a bit of sport parascending and it does make alot of difference...

if you jump, your acceleration is 32 feet/ sec/ sec less a factor to allow for wind resistance. This will become more effective the faster you are travelling of course. The terminal velocity of a body at sea level air density is approx 120 MPH. I am sure you can work it out for yourself with all that information now.
