Default 'Can I get'

The latest Americanism, was on a course in London last week and all the Londeners were saying it, and by the end of the week there was a gibbon from Stoke who had adopted it, when ordering lunch he was asked, what veg he would like

'Um huh, can I get some Brocolli please'

I dont know why it annoys me so much, maybe because its pillock thinking thye are American or the fact the grammar doesnt really work, 'Could I have' suggest you are asking for something wheras, 'Can I get' suggests that you may just help yourself.

Very subtle, but i hear you Jacko. Yes very annoying. Needlessly non-grammatical and affected.

My dad adopts a southern Irish accent when he's drunk.

Highly annoying, to be sure

It's not nearly as bad as the saying "I'm loving that.." or "I'm liking that"

What the **** is that all about?

What is wrong with "I love....." or "I like....."?

Just reply "I'm sure you are capable of getting that, the question is WOULD you like to?"

Drives me nuts I have to say.

Let's just hope the Aussie habit of saying Thanks when you mean Please doesn't catch on.

Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps thanks.

Keep getting into arguments with my old boy about the way language is changing.

He'd have everyone talking just like they do in old 40's films if he could.
You might as well not bother..........these changes are invasive, there's no stopping them.

At least we haven't got as far as the Americans who, when asked, "Have you got any...........?", reply, "No, I don't got any."

Me, I get wound up by the NUMEROUS people who earn a living on TV and radio, who still can't talk properly. Bill Turnbull and Jamie Oliver come to mind, but there seem to be thousands, and more every day.

I mean, what is it with people who lisp, can't pronounce an "R", etc etc, getting highly paid jobs doing just that?

Thack the lot of 'em, they're wubbish!
