Default Trials Riding?

Is there anyone on here that does, knows about or has done, Trials Riding?

Me and the old man are interested in picking up a couple of bikes to have a bit of fun on and just wondered if there are any good sites to look on?

I have had a search about and only really found a few sites. Most popular bikes seem to be the Gas Gas or BETA?

Yes mate, been out today at a trial competing. I know there's a few more on here that trial also.

A good website to use is www.trialscentral.com

I've got a 2002 Beta 270 :

Me too. Been out today - though not competing. Can't get enough of it at this time of year. got a really top place to ride too.

Here's mine - an 02 Sherco 290:

I'm also building up a pre-65 bike, a BSA based 250:

Lots of used machines on Ebay, but shop carefully and view before you bid.

Ah so there are a few of you trials riders on here then!

I went to a meeting today as my old man's mate was riding so went for something to do but we have both came back with the bug

We live over the road from a nice big piece of heath land, so plenty of places where we can mess about. We don't want to do the club meetings etc (well no intension so far) we would just like to have something to have a play around with really

So what kind of prices would we be expecting to pay for a good cond bike say a few years old 1.5k - 2K? I have found a few for sale on the www.trialscentral.com site Gas Gas, Beta etc, around that kinda money, anything in particular to look out for on these bikes?

Thanks for the info so far guys

Best way to start till you build up confidence. Then enter a few 'wobbler' events and build up from there. It's mostly about confidence once you've sorted out your thottle, clutch and braking control.

Price wise I'd say that's about right. These bikes do tend to get abused so condition can vary widely. Look out for a mature rider who is selling up. Chances are they won't have punished the machine too much before you get it. I have replaced most of the suspension, wheel, fork bearings and seals on mine and I change the oils a lot. The engine itself is pretty bomb proof unless, as I say, it gets hammered. Gas Gas have a bit of a reputation for cracking crankcases, so bear that in mind.

Oh, and if you're not falling off you're not trying hard enough.

LOL - mate, I'm selling that on Ebay as a 70s period classic... I can do you a special 'Buy It Now' price if you're interested.

Trials riding on a motorbike? Bit namby pamby isn't it?

My eldest and his mates do it on adapted mountain bikes. Now THAT'S skill!

That's what boys do before they're old enough to handle an engine

On a mountain bike! ha lol now that is a boy’s toy

Actually when I was at a trials meeting yesterday I was talking to someone I know who's son does a similar thing, on a push bike anyway, and he was saying he had just got him 2x wheels for it which cost nearly £300 oh and some carbon fibre handle bars for some silly amount! I mean whats the world coming too?

It's a lot better having an engine strapped on me thinks and by the looks of it doesn't cost much more than those silly little boys push bikes

I ride mountain bikes as well (in the summer months). The great thing about having a motor is that you can go UP hills as well as down them, and go places a mountain bike could never go.

What do you ride then? Don't tell me - keyboard, mouse and armchair....
