Scalextic, oh heck !
We have a fairly knackered Sclaextric, its from about 1992, Calibra's and both cars are buggesred, so today, my brother in law produced my 3 lads Christmas pressie, a huge quantity of Scalextric track, miles of it, it fills a box 2 foot square by a foot deep, there are 3 transformers and all sorts.
So am after so tips on what cars to get, it came with a ancient 911 which a bit wayward, a MK3 Escort XR3i and a TVR which blitzes them both, it seems to be using magnest to stick it to the track, even 3 year old Orla could manage a lap in that.
So any tips from the experts,
Its already served its purpose, it distracted my father in law from having a strop and moaning !

Got my son the Batman set and need to get some more cars as there is only so much I can put up with being a police car with flashing lights flying round all day. Fancy a bit of proper racing so going looking for a lap counter tomorrow and the conversion sections to use old track with new as have some older pieces to add to it and try and make a bigger circuit.

My tip from childhood is not to use WD40 as oil for the smoke generator.. that is unless you atually want fireballs when you revving up for a standing start

I had the Porsche 911 Le Mans 24 Hour set with working headlights and also the red and yellow Minis set with banked curves which was my first Scalextric set. Total idiot for selling them when I was a teenager
My uncle has several of the original sets up in his loft boxed and in brand new condition - would like to get my hands on those (no chance)

Just bought a 350z sport set for my 4 month old daughter, excellent xmas day fun and loads more advanced than the sets we used to race years ago, magnets seem to make it far to easy (took then out after a while) and the lap counter is cool to try to get the fastest lap, my sister managed 1.7 secs (jammy cow) but me and my bro are level pegging at 1.8 secs. Timeless present !!!

Modelzone have got some cracking deals on at the moment, the Batman set has been dropped from £80 to £50 but also some other sets, there is a very large Le Mans 24 hour set down from £120 to £80 which I want but the Mrs wouldn't sanction it lol - boooo!

I had to laugh at one set I saw in Toys R us.
It's a Police car and another car to chase/run away.
Can you guess what the other car is?

Last 3 pics are of my loft track. They are old pics and some grass and trees have now been planted. Each lane is about 20m long.
There are plenty of makes of car out there to choose from. The scalextric rally cars are pretty good but can be boring as the magnet makes drifting them quite hard. F1 cars as you can imagine are brittle so don't expect them to last too long.
I have about 40-45 cars which is a small collection compared to some. Fly cars are nice quality IMHO and very detailed and there trucks can be very entertaining.
One good tip is to run the driven wheels on some fine sandpaper to true the tyres.

That is superb! I got the Le Mans set this afternoon after much whinging to the Mrs and set it up with my sons set and now goes round the lounge and dining room with electronic lap counter and timer Those Le Mans cars stick to the track like super glue The Batmobile has the magnets too but not the width or weight of the Le Mans cars, they are bloody fast and quicker through the twisties than a scoob
