Talking Gyms

Sure I'm not alone in thinking about them at this stage of the year

So:

Fitness First?
David Lloyd?
Holmes Place?

Recommendations for a newbie?

Haven't you got Total Fitness where you are?
Best gym and best value for money.Huge set-up with ample equipment, deep and shallow pools plus, hydrotherapy pool, steamrooms, saunarium and sauna etc.Free classes with it as well.Sports injury treatment/massage,physiotherapy,rehab etc available.
Top place
Apart from that,Fitness First are good value for money apparently.

Well,£25-30/month is normal for gym fee these days.
One can have off-peak membership for cheap.
Offers are a bonus.Bet all the gyms will be offering discounts in jan-feb coz they know people would want to join in.

We can get it cheaper than that and no joining fee either. Did have a free pass for David Lloyd but not close enough to home for my liking.

Just go out and have a 1 hr fast walk each night. Youll soon feel the benefits both physically and financially. Always makes me laugh seeing people driving to the gym.

Yeah, they should stop poncing around in a gym and go up Pen Y Fan on a cold crispy morning. Then they'll know theyve done a bit of exercise.

No electronically assisted treadmills for helping you up there

LOL at above
Going to gym aint poncing around for all.Physical fitness is a healthy concept and it can be forever, not just for this time of the year.
Electronically assisted equipment are designed to give you right work out without freezing your bollixes off or getting drenched in rain.Good gym is motivational too.
For general health, walking is a damn good exercise and people who dont mind walks in cold etc can always buy a dog that will force them to get up their backsides and take a dog for a walk.Cycling is another good one.

Getting a dog with no legs would be even better, because of the frictional resistance..

I actually have a picture of me when I was 13 ish standing on the top of that very mountain. We did a week long school trip to Talybont (where the Reservoir is) . And they suddenly anounced we wer going for a walk. Was very wet and windy Here's where we stayed

What I would say is Im no blob of Fat. I do a lot of Urban MTB riding anyway, Im developing a bit of a belly and thought Id better cure it first.

Where about do you live to pay that kind of cash? Are you getting to use someones running machine in their garage?

Normal gym membership is £75 for membership and then £55-£60 where i live. (Harrogate, N.Yorkshire)

I pay £57 a month for use of cannons gym! Very well equipped with large gym/sauna/steam room/jacuzzi and swimming pool.

http://www.cannons.co.uk/common/jsp/...p?PI=new_intro

£25 a month wouldn't cover their electricity bill or water charges, never mind the upkeep of equipment and staff wages along with all the other running costs!

I was a member of Cannons for 6 years ...... £139 a month for the family.

Cannons are bloody expensive, but they are generally the best run IMHO.

Stopped the workouts 11 months ago when they wanted to increase my fee by 35% ...... told them to shove it.

And, I have to say, I don't think I have been healthier!! I know, it's odd - but true - my bad back is no more .......... my bad knees work fine now ............. the one area I could do with is some cardio-vascular via. Swimming (but thats £3 and about 100 yards away from my front door!)

The saving in money is quite substantial too, £139 a month + £60 a month in petrol to get there ... = £200 Basic Cost ................ I needed to earn £3500 a year to pay for it!!!

Think very carefully ..................
