I have a spare one of these that I use to control the 'magic eye' thing up in the bedroom, it has always worked no problem, but I let the batteries go flat, and putting new batteries in makes no difference.
Under the battery cover, it says ' insert new batteries within 10 minutes of inserting the old ones' , which obviosly I havent done. Is it knackered?
looks like this:

Probably not, it's just lost it's memory. You're using the remote to control both the sky box elsewhere via the magic eye and the other telly I presume? You therefore need to tell the remote what model the other telly is so that it knows what combineation of infra red bleeps and whistles turns it on, adjusts the volume etc etc. This would have been done when it was first set up, then it remembers it for 10 minutes if you change the batteries but not for any longer then this.
Sadly I can't recall how you set it up.

no amount of ******* about would get my dodgy remote to talk to my magic eye...however a few buttons pressed later, and it was driving my panasonic TV downstairs.....so that remote stays downstairs, and the other one comes upstairs to do the magic eye.
cheers!
