got an rover derv using as an every day car 420 td 1998, tried it out yesterday on svo straight from the bottle and ran fine although cold start this morning was a bit pants but then thats to be expected and can be tolerated for the price of 21p per litre at the mo ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
yes it has a bosche injector pump, someone mentioned i could mix a very small amout of white spirit or petrol etc to the oil to aid cold start?
i apreciate not al dervs can run svo but did a little research and it seams mine should be fine
but at the mo v happy at end of day brill for the enviroment brill for my pocket, and yes i wil be declaring im runing on chip fat lol

If it runs ok on it then fair play, 21p/litre sounds good to me!!
Garage around here has starting selling red diesel for about 38p/litre!
Theres never really any farm traffic about so Im guessing the idea is that drivers of ordinary diesels will fill up with it 'by accident'.
The garage probably make 4 times the profit on the red stuff so its in their interest!

Dont know where you are located but we have had one of a vans dipped at least 4 times in the last 6 months. They take a swab if they think its suspect and will then confiscate the van. Not worth the risk for me on a 1 year old 313 sprinter

The problem with SVO is that it thickens up in the cold weather, even if you mix it 50/50 with DERV you may well still have a problem. Rape Seed Ester would be a better bet; failing that Id suggest either a heated fuel filter or a warming element plumbed into the cooling system, to warm the fuel in the pipes leading to the injection pump.
*As apples has stated, you can only use SVO in a Bosch pump-equipped vehicle; using unmodified vegetable oil in a vehicle with a Lucas-type pump will f*ck it!*

what about the small amount of additive to the svo ? yes its thicker when cold and that only seems to effect cold start and end of day as long as it starts who cares lol
its actually more healthy for the engine than proper diesel ! just smell like a chip shop as ya drive down the road pmsl

If they didn't charge so much for it we wouldn't bother looking for cheaper fuel would we

most german cars are fine, as above a lot people use 50/50 or 80/20 but theres quite a few who just litrely poor it in there tank outside tescos pmsl as they find its easier to put the emptys straight into the recycle bin lol
if you have a bosch pump try it spose, i belive direct fuel injection can be a problem but then i also heard of a chap ruing svo in a transit so mixed storys really, if your diesel has a cat its a bonus as wont smell as much

Note that bio-diesel is NOT a few litres of crisp and dry dumped in with diesel. Proper, reliable biofuel is new / used veggie oil, which is boiled, washed and chemincally reacted with Methanol, to create an ester so there is a cost in production too.
I am convinced that it makes my car run quieter, and pull stronger. The emissions from biodiesel are CO2 and Water, minute traces of sulphur, and lesser hydrocarbons compared with vehicles running Derv or Petrol.
Having been on the wrong side of HMC&E for misuse of oils - I would advise you not to run the gauntlet - its just not worth the risk.
