Phone NHs direct. Maybe she needs a different/stronger antibiotic as if shes been on p/cin for 2 days it should have started to clear up by now.

I've suffered with tonsillitus on & off for years, infact the last time i got it i rang the surgery & managed to get a prescription over the phone, 3 days later no improvement, which is not normal, felt really bad, struggling to swallow things, in the end the doctor came out to see me & he diagnosed quinsy , i spent 2 days in hospital on a drip, get the doc to have a look at her again..

I had a similar thing (streptococal throat infection) when in my final year at uni, was fecking awful, affected my balance, couldn't stand up without help, nor keep anything down, every time I swallowed it was like someone was putting a red hot poker down my throat, wouldn't wish it on anyone, my heart goes out to your missus.

I take it you mentioned to the Doctor you'd just been on a cruise?

I'd give her 3 days tops.

Just sounds like the standard form of tonsilitius I used to get before having them out. I used to get hallucinations and wail in my sleep through the fever. I thought I'd never get better as it went on for days.

Just get her to keep taking the tablets, no matter how much it hurts to swallow. Get her a throat spray like Covornia (sp) and just make sure she is comfy. It will pass eventually.

It may be quinsy (as above).. never heard of it before reading this and googled it.. apparently uncommon these days because of anitbiotics, but if the tonsillitis(sp) becomes acute, this occur.. sounds painful!!

It may be glandular fever (aka Epstein-Barr Virus) as you have a few days of mild symptoms, including headache and fever, and then the 'major' symptoms begin. They test for this by taking a blood sample...I had GF whilst at school, and they thought I may have it again - but my blood work came back negative...

The link below gives symptoms etc -

http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/h...ious_mono.html

Don't worry or panic if this is diagnosed - although recovery is dependent person to person, and how severely affected by the virus the person is, there is a better understanding now, than there was say 13 years ago of these types of conditions.

Ganglias ( as I have heard of them) are normally swellings around joints?

HTH - and I hope apples24 wife begins to feel a bit better soon..
