Due to size constraints in our lounge, I'm only looking at a 32", but don't know whether to go for a Plasma or LCD.
Any advice on which one to go for??
Oh, Happy New Year everyone!

General rule of thumb would say anything below 42" LCD, anything over Plasma
Though there is still a great deal of difference in screen qualities so choose wisely. www.avforums.com is good for all such info

Went into my local high end av shop today (sigh)
well they confirmed what ive suspected, and voiced here.
I did some back to back comparasons(sp) on lcd & plasma,
the lcd,s look grainy, and blocky and oversaturated, all were high end stuff all driven from good dvd sources... toy story / monstors ins/ ice age etc..
the pioneer plasma on the other hand looked totally normal, skin tones were good/ natural. and focus was maintained far closer to the screen than an lcd..
if anything it almost looked like crt.
now question in...
whats the longevity of a plasma, and how do they compare to lcd in terms of cost & quality

Plasma all the way for me too
not a fan of LCD's unless your spending a fortune. Panasonics rival to the Pioneer is the Viera and they give it a 60k hour lifespan, use it 8 hours a day gives you 20 years of use.

I have the Panny PWD6, people knock plasma's but in the last couple of years they have come on loads! As said, lifespan is vastly better, mine with my viewing will last waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over 10 years. Will want a change by then anyway!

After the so-called lifespan has ended it will still work fine its just the colours will not be as bright because the gas expires that forms the plasma. I used to repair them for a living and the main problem was screen burn, ie pub ones just being left on sky sports 24/7.

And at £650 I thought it good value
Sadly, I want 37" at least! and the 37" version didn't look half as good

What shop did you view it in as most dont set up the set properly and have one signal running multiples of TVs.
If your after a 37" then I reckon the Panny TH37PV500 will be hard to beat for about £1850. My neighbour has the 42" and it really is superb.
