Default Blood counts

Hi All,

just had some blood test results back for my son - just wanted some advice from any doctors/experts before we go to the GPs. Yes, yes I know that the GP is the answer, but I know there are some experts on here that may have experience/opinion.

We know Ben might be anaemic and the low haematocrit and Hb levels support that, it is just that his eosinophil count appears slightly low (0.15 against the range of 0.3 - 0.8). I've Googled eosinopenia and the results are fairly vague. Most research suggests increased eosinophil counts in asthma (which we also know Ben might be suffering from), although one paper by Le Bourgeois et al suggests that there may be some evidence that this may be reversed in children (Ben is 2).

Anyone have any experience of this? NSR always delivers!

Cheers,

Nev

Go to your GP - blood test results don't always tell the whole story.

Don't worry, we will be! Just wondering what experiences others have had. The test results just don't seem to be too far outside the quoted ranges. I don't know if the ranges quoted take into account assay variability or not?

Some of the results of my recent blood tests were out of quoted ranges but were normal for my age, medication I was taking at the time etc. etc. I would add that I am a medical secretary and I can't interpret patients' results - too many other factors are involved!
