Change to another high-paid similar job, and see if that improves your situation.

You are in a better bargaining position whilst you are in the job.

I gave up a really high paid job - loved the job, but couldn't keep doing the hours (not seeing the wife & kids).

The perks were great (out of this world, as a matter of fact), but had to do it.

Much happier now - I lecture in my old profession, and still get to do loads of production/studio stuff outside of hours (plenty of opportunity )

Took a MAJOR pay cut (down to about a 1/5th of my old salary), and have now worked up to a respectable income (considering what I do!!!! - that can be taken in all sorts of ways!! )

Key thing - MUCH happier. Get to see my wife and two kids all the time

If you really aren't happy in your job, just remember, "there's more to life than money"..........

I'll be the first to ask then.

What's high paid and what do you do?

....seriously though, i can't class myself in anything even close to your position - all i can say is think long and hard and then come up with something that will make you happy.
I've always said that life is the bit that comes between the hours of work - it is those hours that you must enjoy first and foremost

Can you not discuss a slightly different position within the company with ya bud?
If you tell him how you feel, he may bend over backwards to help you out

I did it, walked away from a well paid job. Money isnt everything. Life comes first in my book.

So many people i know are doing this now. Employers expect too much this day and age, Sundays, late nights.......... I now work for myself. Earn more, and have a great life.

I am only earning more by default, as i didnt do it for that reason.

Good luck with what ever you do

I'm in the very same boat,I've been in the army since school (15 years), allthough my job is not high paid, I will still have to take a considerable pay cut, and I'm missing out on a very good pension (army) and I havent got a job lined up, or anywhere to live, I've got a wife and 2 kids, but what will happen will be for the best, do what you feel right and that will be for the best for you, as long as your not going to go hungry then try it

Think of this way....

No one ever went to their grave thinking "I wish I spent more time in the office".

Sums it up for me...

I left a well paid job back in 2000/2001. Was out of work for three months, then got a telesales job for £4/hour whilst building my business up in the evenings. I then left the telesales job after 4 months to run my own business, and have just started my 5th year.

I now love my job and make twice as much as I did in the original "well paid" job

I always used to leave jobs when I didnt like them, puts you under pressure to find something else then

Similar to ScoobyDoo555 - now lecture at University in my previous field (Advertising Photography). Less money, less travel, less perks but less hassle, less hours and a much better overall life style. Being a Professional Photographer isn't as exciting as many amateurs think...

I have just given up my job as a Greneral manager after 20 years and stepped down to a deputy /floor manager

It was part of my 15 year plan and when I reached the magic 40 I would step down to a less demanding role

I work 40 hours instead of 58-62

home every night at 620 pm instead of 9 ish #]

and not have to worry about everything any more

I was lucky I dont have a morgage or any debts the boy looks after his self and the misses is content polishing the scooby and I could afford the pay drop but when you take into account the extra hours worked and tax mans chunk it isnt that much different and most of all my heath Im no longer stressed out and would have probably droped down dead soon

I had a viral plucery attack 18 months ago and when I laid in the hosplital bed i t makes you think about your one and only life .

Give the high paid job up and enjoy your life more

I dont regret it

especiaaly when i have more time to drive the scooby

I took at 20% pay cut on basic salary but I'm no longer expected to work in the evenings to prepare for the next day (teaching myself the software as I go!!), don't spend over 2 hours a day on the M25, can get out of bed and be in the office in less than 30 mins, get my weekends back by finishing work at 4pm latest on Fridays, can sod off home at lunchtime if I wish and my boss is definitely not a super-annuated geeky school boy!
A much more preferable way of life - good move all round

Ive decided to try and make it to easter and in that time set something else up which is totolly diffrent to the trade ive been doing for the last 13 years. This job has had its advantages, its enabled me to move to a nice area and get the kids in decent schools.Just got to find something to keep paying for this.Ive got a few ideas its just a case of makeing the leap.Ive enjoyed reading other peoples experiances and they seem mainly good.regards JASON

I suppose it is a bit of a strange post but its nice to get other peoples veiws, mainly because its hard for me to talk to people i know for there veiws because the trade im in is very close knit, and mine and the bosses mates are one of the same.JASON
