Default Teenage Tourettes Camp

Best bit of TV I've watched in ages. Far better than Little Britain!

And before anyone starts, yes Tourettes is funny.

I was laughing from the start to the end that fat chick was hilarious "shes doing it to me on purpose, she dosent have tourettes "

another 2 classic quotes from the derby lad

"I have a bomb on the ferry to france "

"twin towers"

not funny really, but I was wailing with laughter

Angry

And before anyone starts, yes Tourettes is funny.
Not if someone you know is badly affected

His life is and has been a total misery for years even although he tries to remain postive about it. Not to mention the amount of physical violence he has endured at the hands of Joe Public...you wouldn't believe how much. Then imagine the long term psychological damage that goes along with knowing that you probably will get beaten up if you walk outside.

I'm glad the TV program made for entertaining viewing

the thing is sipie, finding it funny is a good thing.

what do you want people to be like? go along with him and have a bit of fun, or just ignore them and pretend they are not there?

finding it funny and accepting it is better than not understanding it and pushing the person further into the corner.

thats my feelings on it personally.

I watched this last night and to be honest, the young girl Jessica said to the others that if she saw some one shouting 'f*** off' in the middle of the street and she didnt have tourettes, she'd laugh too. I thought she was very understanding why people were laughing when they went on their day trip.

They all took it in their stride I thought apart from Jenny who went mental when kids were shouting out 'fatty' and 'Jen gives head'.........

It was hilarious
Them kids wouldn't of appeared on tv if they didnt want people to understand what they go through.

I would rather laugh along with what they shout out and tick about (which clearly helps ease how they feel) rather then be offended or look at them strangley.

Shamless started making people aware of the condition and i guess now there are a lot more people out there that will be able to know if someone has tourettes when they get called a n****r in the street

So whats it all about then? Shouting out the worse possible thing they can think off at the time? Cause you never hear any random obscure words being flug about, Dont hear them shout "Boxes" etc, its always offensive....

Jenny was the older girl with the brown curly hair who controlled her tourettes buy keeping in her ticks. It just made her whole face shudder.

One of the girls shouted 'bags' when they were walking up the path to the camp carrying their suitcases. So i think it is a case of other words too, not just swears. As far as I understood it, the swears come out because they come into their head and know that they are bad words to say but cant control them being said.

When one of the guys shouted 'Twin Towers' he knew it was bad, but couldnt help himself from saying it. Then the more it played on his mind the worse it got.

They shout out their inner thoughts, jessica kept sticking up the Vs and grunting. Its alsmost as if the tick is programmed to come out at the sight of certain things.

There was the other girl and the boy who didnt shout swear words and feared that they would return from their trip saying them.

The link I posted in the my earlier post above might help answer some of the questions ...

One of the less common possible symptoms of Tourettes yet the most highly publicized would be Coprolalia (outburst of obscenities and curse words).

Coprolalia is actually very uncommon in Tourette Syndrome and only effects as low as 5% to 15% of Touretter’s. Coprolalia is not required for a diagnosis.

It's only when you speak to a sufferer about day to day things like 'trying to chat up a girl in a club', getting in a TAXI and getting thrown out by th edriver at 3am in the pissing rain, getting thrown out of a supermarket when trying to buy your food....... that you realise the wide-ranging effects that Tourettes can have on a sufferer's life.

May be fun for some to watch but the bad cases get all my sympathy.....

yeah but now people are more aware if they come across someone with tourettes they will be more understanding.

I know it has changed my perspective and if i come across someone in the street i would now know what the condition is and be more understanding.

i thought some of them were quite intelligent, though the girl who thought everyone was getting at her was very annoying.

I imagine its like the worse possible thing you could think of to say at any one point and then having the very uncontrollable urge to shout it out. They were all laughing at each other, sometimes there is very little else to do.

Sipie i totally agree with you, though i think the whole programme was probably aimed to entertain the masses, i cringed most of the through it and had to mute the tv when jessica and her mother were in the shop and she was saying racist comments, did they explain to the shop assistant coz i just couldn't watch it?

Yeah her Mum did explain it to the shop assistant. She apologised and the other girl working there said 'She has tourrettes doesnt she?'. Luckily she remembered Jessica from previous visits and knew it was a medical problem.

so you think the stoopid faces grunts and twitches and being ridiculed were all a blag so they could get a freebie holiday?

lets just hope you dont have a child who has any 'problems'. my daughter has brain damage and is losing her eyesight but she looks totally normal....what are kids meant to look and act like to get help?...idiot

its about time that these camps were set up to help disadvantaged kids achieve a bit more out of life

i have a friend who's son has tourettes, he can laugh about his condition (he's done with being angry) and is slowly learning to control it, he says he prefers people to find it funny and laugh with it not at it.....

all we need is more education on conditions like this and it will make all the difference

It was a fat kids programme i was watching in fact.
I was also pointing out that and mybe its just me but it seems the programme makers are cashing in almost making these people perform.
I dont think theyre meant to look any way in particular Sara...
