It was quite chilly on Friday evening around 7.30. I didn't have a coat on though so that might have been part of the problem.

Anyway - nowthat the coldest winter is over we can look forward to the chicken flu onslaught

To be fair the Met Office chaps gave a fairly low level of confidence in it being very cold, it was the media and the Labour Party (who want to build nuclear power stations and needed to re-open that debate) who sold the "we are all going to freeze" line.

The other matter is that the most likely part of the winter to be colder than average in this cycle of the NAO is the later part, so it may be that it hasn't arrived yet.

On what basis Pete?

Around '95 West Central Scotland saw minus 12 to minus 20 degrees celcius for about 7 consecutive days in December.

Its been mild in comparison this year

Pete...............even a pseudo scientist like you, must know that winter only BEGAN on 21st December and lasts until 20th March?

And the colderst times are usually in late January/earlt February.

'Colder than average' was the statment released by the Met Office and it certainly was in Novermber, with December holding up well in terms of a cold snap but the trouble with weather is that very few people understand it. Just because it's cold/raining here doesn't mean that it's the same 10 miles down the road, let alone in Scotland or Wales for that matter.

Another cold snap in February (still at least two months of Winter left) should see a few more coffing dodgers bite the dust thus relieving the pressure on our pension funds.

Ah yes Pete, well trained by the Labour Party you now even tell us what we know with no reference at all to the relevant science. Next you'll be putting cameras up on every corner to monitor us and make sure we believe what we are being told.

Oh, yeah, you've already done that.

Your very limited intelligence is showing!!

February has historically been the month where we are likely to get the coldest weather.

I think you are grasping at straws to generate a thread PSL.

According to a national paper today, forecasters have warned that freezing conditions, which have seen tempertaures of -30c in Moscow, could hit Eastern England by next Thursday.

Although there is some doubt over the forecast, it would appear the cold snap would head west from Russia. We would have sub-zero temperatures by day, and hard frosts by night, with a risk of snow in the East.

Temperatures will begin to drop from this Saturday...

God, i feel like a female John Kettley!!

Is this thread not related to the offer of a 19.99 'check' on your car offered by a certain manufacturer warning that it was going to be the coldest winter EVER?
