A Strange Question About Kittens...
My kitten / cat (he's about 14 weeks old) will play fetch with me i.e, I throw him something and he'll run for it, pick it up and fetch it back to me
Is this abnormal behaviour or have I just got a clever moggy I thought it was only the more intelligent pets that could do this (eg dogs)
Thanks

One of my cats will chase after thrown sticks but she won't return with them.
You may want to try this book - Apparently one of our cats has "A Superior Intelect"

One of our Siamese (well Tonkenese to be precise) used to sit on and use the toilet to have a wee, used to do this regularly. Never mastered how to flush it though.
He also would go and fetch things if in the mood
No, this is not a rip off from Mr Jenks/meet the fockers!

No they all do this when young. After a while they learn the futilty of such play, afterall they'll still get fed and have somewhere to sleep regardless of whether they play fetch, they'll give up the whole idea. Cue disdainful looks from the cat should you evere dain to throw something for them to fetch. Dogs aren't smart enough to figure that much out.

If you really want to entertain a cat, get a laser pointer

Your moggy is so intelligent that he has figured out you can be trained to throw an item on command

They love em - especially if you get them thinking they've "caught" the laser by turning it off when they put their paw on it. Then watch them slowly lift their paws to reveal the little red "animal" - then on with the laser and off you go again

You can teach / train pretty much any animal, cats included if you set aside the time to do so. In general cat owners don't seem interested in investing the time or effort in to their "pet" and prefer to let it do its own thing. Providing stimulation for any animal in your care, is IMO an essential part of the caring process.

Ours plays fetch untill we get bored of it.
Shes now taken to bits of paper like receipts and will fetch one when she wants to play.
we realised she was getting them from my wallet when she started to bring in 10 and 20 € notes
I try to persuade my visitors to leave there wallets on the sideboard so she can help herself

Laser pointers on polished floors are way more fun than stairs btw

We used the laser pointers once, but that was it. After an hour of chasing the cats were knackered and one of them had devleoped a nervous twitch, which didn't disappear for 3 days. Poor thing would be sitting there, then suddenly jump up and spin round, having imagined it had seen the pointer. After that we thought it would be cruel to use the laser pointer again.

This is my cat, Tizer
He often thinks his a dog.
If the door bell rings, he's at the door within a second! Also he likes to jump up (and claw) at the letter box at the paper or post, he's even got the parcel man's finger before when he posted something through!!!
He always brings me home presents- flowers, twigs, string, bits of plastic, leaves and his favourite- straws!!!
