Default Another on Caught what can I expect

Good Morning all,

Well it has been 2 and a half years of Scooby ownership without any points and now I have been caught.

No excuses traffic cleared infront of me I put my foot down as I was trying to get back to London from Leeds on business and had an unmarked Honda Accord Type R put its blues and twos on behind me.

As always treated the police officers with respect and didn't try and make excuses simply accepted that I had been caught.

My question from those with experience or any of the Police on here is what can I expect.

I was caught on the M1 around Nottingham about 3 in the afternoon traffic conditions moderate. Average speed was 108 over 0.7 of a mile and was tracked for 24 seconds. Any ideas.

I am guessing the best case scenario would be a short ban, but does anyone have any ideas as to what the going rate is at the moment on this type of offence.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Sounds like a ban to me but lets hope they feel lenient as you need the car for work !

If you were a Premiership Footballer, then you could expect a ban of a few weeks. If your not, then you can expect a ban of maybe a few months.

Those who can afford to pay a driver, always get the shortest bans. Joe public however get punished the most.

You are now a CRIMINAL, and should expect the book to be thrown at you. The harder the better as far as I'm concerned. What would have happened if a young child was playing in the middle of the motorway? Would you have been able to avoid this defenceless sweet child??? Your a maniac, who uses his car as a leathal weapon.

Hope you get sent down.

Ouch, seems like a ban and a fine I think it could depend on your individual case ie work, family etc or they may give u points and a fine...

Crafty B4$tards. Honda Accrod type R, last thing you'd think was a police car.

Personally I'd go to court and claim entrapment.

I f*cki*g hate underhand tactics like these.

No use at all but i needed a rant

Thanks guys

As per usual Scoobynet responses, some usefull advise and some very usefull advise.

I don't think I will get sent down!!??!! but as you rightly said am going to be punished with either a fine and points or a ban. Not really to sure which is better, as only being 24 with mods on the scoob the insurance is already a large amount. Maybe the end of scooby ownership for me

I got pulled in my XR3i many moons ago doing 109 in the wet on the M3 near Basingstoke. I got 3 points and 300 pound fine, I told them I needed the car for work.

14 to 28 days ban is probable. Get a solicitor and go to court with cap in hand, but work out which might be worse for your own situation - a short ban or a pile of points?

Did they give you and indication of what they would write it up as ?

When I got pulled at 9@ in a 5@ (private road of course) the police man called it 7@ and a 3 point fixed penalty. He did state that it would have been a ban if he called it 9@.

A friend got pulled at 90 in a 70 on the Kendal bypass and got a weeks ban, did not affect his insurance at all.

Afraid they wrote the figures down as stated, saying that anything over a 100 is going to be serious.

I am hoping a couple of weeks ban which will not affect the insurance and possibly a fine, but guessing it may not be what I get

Cheers

Good luck.

Please let us know the outcome as we rarely get feed back. Maybe it will make us think twice ourselves.

You are also against CCTV then???

Anyway that they catch criminals is good for me .....

Back on topic - I would suggest a 1 month ban was the order of the day

Pete

As an aside ... it's good to see a poster holding his hands up to speeding and willing to take what comes ... no asking for how to 'get-off' ............... i salute you!

I think its anything exceeding the speed limit for the road you are on, by more than 30mph is a ban.

From just general observation of other cases I would guess at 6 weeks.

no chance of you getting caught doing silly things like that then mr lewis?
perhaps you would not be able to stop what with only a millemeter left on those original brake pads

Old men don't seem to be able to drive over 10mph...so I'd say probably not

Coincidentaly I have just been reading this post on another forum.

Exactly the same speed, though everything else will be different of course. There is some interesting stuff in there.

I got caught at 107 Mph on the M25..

I got 2 month ban.. no points £200 fine. It totally depends on the mood of the judges.

Expect anything from 2 weeks to a 6 month ban.

Default Description of the Accord

I drive up and down the M1 leicester to notts area everyday.

I havent see the Accord, could you let us have a bit more info on it.
i.e colour, age, reg no. etc

Also was it the lower side of Notts j24-j25 or j26-j28 area as it is patrolled by 2 diferent areas.

Just worried as many people cruise at 100+ around there (not me of course) and wondered if they were on a crack down.

Sorry to hear you got caught by the way. Its about time they accepted that people drive fast on motorways, a ban at 100 is pretty bad I think. For example I got stopped on the M5 at 98mph and they simply let me off and told me to take it easy, where it the logic in that.

You could've had a moan to the officers on the day and asked for a proper punishment to keep you happy.

I would personally be over the moon if I were to be stopped for doing those speeds and just got a slap on the wrist.

Spot on, its a refreshing change to have an honest 'take iton the chin' poster..
I also echo the other sentiments in Mr Lewis' post...And I'm only just in my thirties

I got caught speeding last night. Its the first time ever in my life I've been pulled, but I was speeding.

I felt it a little unfair in the circumstamces as the Officer said he followed me from joining the M20 in Kent all the way to the Kent boarder in Surrey on the M25. In this time (whilst other cars were charging past me) he clocked me at 81, 85 and 89.
Fair cop. Got let off. However the fact he followed me for all those miles in order to try and catch me speeding was a bit rough...but hey he gave me a warning. Lucky was not the word...so I've bought a lotto ticket for tonight.

Lessoned learned...Always break the law on a motorway but never go above 90mph.

Oh the Speedo on a Subaru is Waaaaaay off - thank god.
