Oasis.. How good were they?
Sitting here at work decided to lob in my "Masterplan" CD as haven't listened to it in a while.
Brought back a lot of memories from the mid nineties, Especially because I went to Knebworth in August 1996 with 250,000 other fans.
I have to say In my opinion there first 3 albums were phenomenol, its a shame there later stuff which I really don't like has kinda tarnished the quality of their early stuff.
Whether they were k*obhead's off the stage or not I don't think that can take away from just how good they were.
what's everyone else feel about the music they produced and how there new stuff compares to there old stuff?

I too went ot Knebworth. back then they where class.
First album is up there with the roses almost for me. Some of the B-sides are pure class as well. Acquiesce being my fave.
The second album was softer and not as good for me although still some great songs.. after that I haven't bothered with them as it's all been tosh!

Sold my ticket in 199 er...4? or 5? cant remember.
Anyway- it was when they were still quite small and touring local leisure centres.
Sold it as i didnt really like them at the time........ all my friends that went still share the same opinion that i missed the best gig any of them have ever been to for any band (and that includes knebworth).
Acquiesce -great tune.
Shame it went downhill after the first two in terms of songs.

Not very. Nothing new - as has already been said, just a Beatles clone really, but they made their money out of it so fair play to them I guess for that.

In summary:
What Oasis had (have) is a charismatic front man....exactly what every band needs....
Whether he is a complete w@nker is irrelevant, his attitude turned a moderate band into something huge.
Few great tracks (few still found on Heathen Chemistry) surrounded by averageness.
Now surpassed by loads of other up and coming bands who do it alot better with attitude...
Subways
Kooks
Zutons
22-20's
Black Keys
to name a few

Derivative...certainly.
Original...nope.
Believed the hype and ultimately disappeared up there own..fer sure.
First two albums...good to very good!
The third album...not good and downhill from there.
Musical legacy...none.
I did like the Epiphone with the Union Flag paint job too!

I liked their earlier stuff, but I just cant stand Liam. He's getting too old now to walk around with that stupid belief he's the next Lennon, sticking his fingers up and pulling stupid faces.
Also, he's brave behaviour of offering out cameraman / passer bys, when his "body guard" is standing next to him, is sickening.
Has anyone noticed that his eyes arent parallel ?

Live forever and Slide away are all time great songs, more melodic than most Beatles stuff (with only 1 or 2 exceptions) although underacknowledged. Gonna listen to them again now.....

When they got into that fight in Germany, the doormen should have done a better job on the cocky tw*ts!!
Should have completely paggered Liam....knock some civility into him.
He wouldn't be so confident without his entourage on heavies, I'm sure.
Still.........Wonderwall was quite good!! LOL
