Default Dumbing down why??

Has anyone else noticed that despite having systems in place which have served us well for i would guess the best part of 30 years, we now have to dumb it down to idiot level...

I,m referring to film certificates,

for years we had U A AA X and then if i recall we had U/C 12 18 and then a minor revision to U/C 12 15 18

so why now do we have to have a breif resume of the films content on the bottom of any trailer ffs...

and the way its described, is almost a cynical p*ss take...

"Contains one swearing referance, and scenes of mild peril (sp)" Given the way the yoof of today are, i doubt they even understand what peril is.

or the best one when cartoons are advertised...

contains fantasy violence..... FFS its a cartoon, does it matter, we know its not real...

you can see it comming as time goes on..

********
XXXXX the latest realease... frommm xxxxx studios...

certificate 18

film contains

2 f*cks
1 b*gger
8 Sh*ts
2 stabbings
3 fights
6 sex scenes

parental guidance advised

are we becoming that slow that we can no longer understand simple things like film ratings..

what next the same applied to books??

because 20 years ago if you took your kid to see a "kids" movie it was bambi or snow white - the line is now much closer and blured.

i happily took my kid to see Kong because i knew it wasnt full of a bad laungague - my 5 year old can happily sit through kong killing a few yanks but i dont want him going to school saying homework is **** because they sneaked it in to a PG movie (and despite what seems to be the norm here my kids go to a school where (the infants at least) dont run around the playground using bad laungage.

Yes Mart, I agree with you. It makes me laugh that we need to be told exactly what is in the film. Maybe in the future they will tell us what the ending of the film is so that we won't sue them for being shocked that it didn't turn out the way we imagined it would.

Crazy world we live in.

The classification in effect has been relaxed. A 12A essentially is warning you of the films content but is leaving it up to YOU the parent to decide wether the film is suitable for your children.

I think its a good idea, it shows that the BBFC arent as prudish as they have been made out to be for so many years.

Hopefully in future classification will be relaxed further.

Unfortunatley they will no doubt have to keep warning people of the films content. For some reason some people just cant comprehende that an 18 rated film may just believe it or not contain scenes of graffic gore and violence.

In effect theyre protecting the weak minding who cant differentiate between whats on the screen and whats real life.

Not a dig just my personal opinion.

you cant have it both ways.....

SN is always moaning about kids of today - well here is additional info so that those who wish to raise their kids in a certain way can choose to do so.

if you dont like it dont moan next time some 10 year old tells you to **** off.

OK you've got to check out this site:

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/recent/index.php?media=film

and read some of the classification.

eg. "contains mild innuendo" - like that explains a lot, a review for the "hit" TV series, "Are you been served"

Personally, I think it's fairly impossible to raise kids wrapped in cottton wool, so it should be a function of parenting to explain that that language is not appropriate.

What seems to be happening in society unfortunately, is that people read these silly little explanations on the back of the video, dump the kids infront of the square nipple and leave them too it unsupervised. No wonder they don't know where "little jonny" heard these words from, and then when they come home crying after being a mouthy little **** to the wrong hairy-assed trucker they are outraged !

a parent can still decide what they let a kid watch - if its rating is XYZ then theres no harm in letting the parent know why so they can make their own choice. 12a is a good example, theres some that are 12a for violence and some for langauge.........for me thats important, if its not to you then dont worry - no one forces you to read the warning!
