Lightbulb Last day at work

Well after nearly 15 years working for the same firm job I'm switching the office lights off for the last time today. Made redundant due to cut backs. No more browsing SN all day. Suppose I'll have to get a real job now.

Dont know whether to laugh or cry OK

Yes I suppose, enhanced redundany package which is fine but wont last long in this day and age. Especially not with the price of gas

Cheers imlach. I stay near Gr**nock (dirty word and place ) and it's not exactly a job hotspot. Near enough Glasgow I suppose but I'd hate to commute into that hell hole. Dunno, perhaps a change of career is needed. It all seems to have taken me by surprise. I guess I've been in denial.

RIP, how much notice were you given???

once you are served with notice of redundancy your firm is obliged to allow you reasonable time (with pay) to finds another job....

I got 3 months last time.... this time i got nada as it was immidiate, but an enhanced package (only 2 months though)

get of SN and get registering with Job sites

good luck and welcome to the SN day club

i believe the 2 core members at the mo are

Me

16vmarc (trainee due to ilness )

and looks like you as from tommorow

lol, cheers Mart, glad to be onboard, not for too long I hope. I'm becoming more upbeat about this as the morning goes on. We were given 30 days consultation and two months notice. I'm leaving one month early on gardening leave, which suits me fine. HR did mumble about relocation and help finding another job but I wasnt up for it. I've been given a few leads from friends so I'm being as positive as I can.

I've actively tried to get myself made redundant on a few occasions and failed miserably because from the experience several friends have had, redundancy acts as a catalyst from which they've gone on to bigger and better things.

It seems to have some 'pushing' affect which we sometimes need.
