Yeah, struggled to stay awake though until they broke out of the facility and became mildly interesting

Think I noticed Coca Cola and the National Lottery and that was it

Isnt that the idea though? some of the things were clues to there being an outside world..

Doesnt it make it more realistic that you see real brand names in films?

Product placement can't be escaped these days - When BMW "bought" James Bond for 3 films they literally paid for GoldenEye to be made. (£70m IIRC)

wonder how many Remote Control 7-series they sold after that?

Another that springs to mind is US Robotics in I, Robot - that one was taking it a bit far though.

To digress slightly, anyone else noticed fictional companies that keep cropping up? IE Oceanic Airlines in "Lost" & "Executive Decision" - James Cameron seems to re-use a lot of names too.

Most films and tv series are becoming long running adverts now.

24 for example, the Ford emblem fills the screen for at least ten minutes an hour, motorola etc etc........

American Idol the judges sit with Coca Cola embossed glasses in front of them the entire show, positioned just off so as not to show the entire logo, but 95% of it!

The new Harrison Ford film Firewall I think has trailers that are used as ads by Chevrolet for the 300c..............

Guess corporate sponsorship goes a long way to paying the budget on action films that the studio has no or little confidence in........ Or they're just greedy *******!!!

i appreciate that its inescapable these days, but they could be more subtle about it...its like watching a 2 hour advert sometimes...!

why does it bother anybody? after it is only a film FFS!

Haven't you got better things to do than compalin about everyday products in a film, doesn't it make the film more realistic instead of the far fetched crap that used to be produced where everything was made by ACME no matter what it was.

Maybe they should use ACME cars aswell and ACME machine guns and ACME drinks cans etc just to add to the realism.

as for the first point - i dont think so, seems too sloppy, but then again just another massive plot hole...

so in order to take part I have to agree with you all do I? and disagree with having real products in films!

Also is a discussion not more than one point of view? or is that not allowed now under the UKs new PC laws?

Probably as a result of it being a quite successful book before Michael Bay got his hands on it and decided it needed a complete re-write. It's just a remake of George Lucas' old THX whatever-its-name-was anyway.

Quite enjoyed the film when I saw it, keep meaning to get the DVD but haven't been bothered yet - besides I've got the rest of my Airwolf boxset to get through first

no you dont have to agree with me at all as im not really submitting an opinion, just an observation...

and the tone of your first post wasnt exactly in tone with everyone elses was it...?

i dont want to fight about it, and maybe at this particular moment in time i have nothing better to do...as you obviously do not...

and this discussion isnt about the products themselves, but the placement of them...

i havent read the book and as is usually the case i can imagine its alot better than the film...

the whole 'have to make them conscious or the organs fail' routine just seems like a massive cop-out though...

Lets start a petition to BAN EdCase from the world of gaming.

If Ed gets his way, your next game of Half Life may look like this:
