Question A question about video cassettes

My old boy, aged 92, has a LARGE collection of home recorded videotapes of his favourite films, built up over the years.

He's read (in "The Mirror" I think ), that NONE of them will be of any use whatsoever, once full digital TV arrives.

Is this true, or more tabloid scaremongering?

Thanks,

Alcazar

Nonsense.
Digital tv is the transmission medium. Your video recorder sends the signal over either SCART, or in the case of very old VCRs, RF. If tv's start to come to market without UHF reception (ie, analogue tv) and he's got a VERY old VCR without SCART, then he will need a RF to SCART adaptor - but most TVs (even those with digital receivers) are still sold with UHF reception capability.

Complete rubbish. So long as you have a working VCR and a TV to plug it into (even a HD ready one, so long as it has suitable inputs and they all do!) you'll be able to watch them

The only thing I think they might be speculating about is that one day, in a completely digital world, TV's could only have digital inputs - HDMI and the like..
