Default Passport question

Whats the minimum time allowable on a passport which will still allow you to visit France and Germany?

I know USA is 90 days after the final day of your trip, not sure about Europe though. Any ideas or links to the law?

Cheers

Gary

I thought a passport was valid until the expiry date if travelling within the EU? It's countries outside that may demand you have a certain time left on it.
