I'm more onto the electric cars, but know a little about the Nitro ones.
If it is having trouble starting first time, loosen off the glow plug a tiny bit, then once engine is running tighten it up again. On running the car plooms of smoke from the exhaust are a good sign (but only on model cars ), as long as though it isn't too much and hangs in the air for mins, then a adjustment to the richness would be needed.

Its trial and error, only make very small turns to the set-up screws on the engine because thats all they need and you will see the difference, in either the engine picking up better or feeling a bit slugish.

As for bigger wheels, you can put them on, but make sure they clear the hubs and wishbones, plus a on-road car will have a lot smaller shocks than a off-road car, so it will handle pretty poo on grass and the rough stuff.

Hope this helps a little, good luck, and enjoy!.

Darren.

My brother-in-law has the thunder tiger ts4n.
If you find it doesn't start porperly, remove the pipe from the exhaust pipe and blow in it a little. This will put some pressue into the system and force the fuel into the engine. Once you have put some air in the system, pinch the end of the pipe so that no air escapes and it will keep the pressue up. Then start the car. Once it is running, just pop the pipe back into the exhaust again. Once the engine is running the air going through the exhaust will keep the pressue going in the system.

cool got the first one yesterday the thunder tiger, its not quite a road car can do off road too, weather or not someones raised it etc with bigger wheels i dont know???

anyways i can get her alive quite easily, got to adjust me idle as the trims right on the min and car still wants to creep forward, go does go like a rocket however on full throttle as i spose it gets to 3/4 speed occasionally it dies for a sec then picks up, doesnt allways do it
think im gonna ritchen it up a tad today just to try as theres not a great deal of smoke visable, there is a bit though
apart from that v happy it was a older chap i got it from who knew his stuff, he replaced and refilled the shocks for me, the drive shafts he also put new ones on and even went and bought me a brand new glow plug heater thingy !

all that to sell a car for 70 quid lol nice chap

just gotta wait for the other one now

heres the thunder tiger

Next thing is to see if you have any clubs local to you.

I'm just about to sell a Kyosho MP777 Special 1, O.S. .21 VZB engine, Mielke Manifold, KO radio gear etc etc.

Ideal for anyone looking into starting 1/8 off road rallycross racing.

Always better to run it rich as worst will happen is performance will be low. Run it lean and you can damage the engine.

I have used my HPI Savage for months but always had to change the high speed idle to suit the conditions. Very hard to get it perfect in that its got enough revs to idle ok but not enough to creep forward.

I should really get mine out for a blast after forking out about £450 on a whim. Dont like to get it wet though lol.

Simon.

P.S. Top tip get a failsafe so that if your batters dies or cars receiver loses comms with your controller then it cuts the throttle and applies the brakes so your car doesnt shoot off out of control and a) smash itself or worse b) takes out some pedestrian.

Another good idea and a requirement at our club is to fit an elastic band or the neck of a baloon around the carb and the throttle linkage. In doing this, the elastic will always try to close the throttle.

Failsafes rely on there being battery power, if you lose power then the failsafe may not function. However, they are still an excellent idea - All my ntiro cars have had failsafes fitted.

good idea on the ruber band etc

been fiddling this morning, worked out by looking down carb not getting full throttle, bloomin fiddly tho as once one end was right the idle looked wrong lol got there in end think

i think the low end carb setting is ok once running temp i pinched the fuel line near to the carb to cut off fuel the revs raised a tad then car died
been reading on the net lol its damn useful

ran it for 10 mins in garden just now still occasionally bogging on full throttle, tried the spit test on the head and it simmered nicely for a few secs

realised got a fookin leaky fuel tank tho bodged it for now but ill buy a new one asap
