Theres another job going where my mum works (SES). Just logging drawings etc on a computer and processing drawings for printing.
My mum and dad said i should contact the personell woman at my old job to see if she would give me a reference, as i was finished before christmas due to being too slow (manual job, welding). She said she has no problems giving me a reference. Time keeping etc was excellant.
Now my mum reckons i should contact her and ask her if she wouldnt say i was finished as it could jepodise my chances. Im against this, so was my dad when i just spoke to him!
Why would i leave a 300 a week job for 30 a fortnight! You just wouldnt do it! Plus im currently signed off anyway!
Could being finished in a manual job, on good terms jepordise a completely dfferant career move? Id rather be honest than say i left to go on the dole!

Hi Mark, remind me where you made redundant/laid off or did you leave on your on volition?
I would be honest and state why you left or made redundant, No shame in that.
Good luck
Paul

I was a Fabricator/Welder and i was laid off due to ineffiencey, not making targets. I was on semi skilled money but still producing skilled work. They stated that financially they couldnt have me producing the amount of work i was. So i was dismissed.
They had no problem with my punctuality, time keeping and attitude.

It is a change if career so the wquality and speed of your previous work is not so much of a concern. Timekeeping, attitude/keenness and commitment are impoirtant so try to impart these in your interview.

So if they ask, be honest and say i was laid off and state that the job wasnt really for me?
I wanted a change of job anyway, i was just let go before i had decided/sorted another job!

if you were on time and tried hard no one cares you werent very good at it if its not related to the new job.
i wouldnt say you "just didnt suit it" - it sounds like you just got fed up......say you gave it your best shot but were bad at it - simple as that, as long as they dont want you for welding it will go fine!

Done a lot of hiring of various people over the years and the advice is spot on.
Being honest with a good attitude is really important.
If I was interviewing you I would ask what you had learned from the experience of being in a job you didn't think suited you...
...why it did not suit you?
...What do you think you want from a job now?
If you get asked these questions they are not a trick (if it is a genuine interviewer) it is to test your attitude and your openess to learn from your experience.
Good luck!
