Repair of PS2 games

Has anybody had scratched games / cd / dvd repairs done. Kids have a few scratched discs and need to repair them.

One potential remedy is toothpaste due to it's very mild abrasive nature (don't know if 'gel' works though). Put a small dab on the cd and rub with a cotton cloth across the scratch. You'll probably get an abrasive looking patch, but it's worked for me in the past, and if it's fooked already, you have nothing to lose

I was told to use car polish as it filled scratches. Tried it on a disc that never worked and now works about 3 out of 4 times. Just apply to the whole disc and polish off.
Works on music cd.s as well.
