My darling wife forgot to renew her tax disc (stupid bint) so I got a new one today. Unfortunately though I noticed a ticket under her wiper this evening (she did not even notice this on the way home - women eh!!!) Anyway, it transpires she received the ticket as I was in the Post Office today buying the new disc. How Ironic. Yes, she did not display a valid tax disc which is of course an offense however £60!!!!!!!!!!!?????? This is ridiculous in my opinion. I thought we were given 14 days grace anyway? What is the score? Any views/ thoughts/ facts (ways to get out it) would be much appreciated. Cheers guys and gals...

You can buy the new disc up to 14 days before the expiry of the old one. Failure to display a tax disc is, I'm afraid, an offence in itself, even if you actually have one.

14 days grace is a myth. Just make sure the wife pays the fine. Having said that if you let her pay she'll get the £60 out of you in another way if she's like every woman I 've known...

You could also get a separate fine for not being taxed (as opposed to failing to display a valid disc), as I did.
It is ridiculous, I agree. On the other hand, I couldn't help thinking that it would have been very easy for me to have taxed the thing (bike, in that instance - tax £15, fine still £60!).

I was done for not displaying my tax disc
Have one of those alloy holders and the sticky bit gave up on the way to a footie match
Couldn't get it to stick so left it on the passengers seat
Came back to a ticket
Went to the local plod to complain...by the law it must be clearly displayed and legible. Which means if it gets a bit faded or wet and the ink runs you could be done too!
There are no mitigating circumstances.. they certainly won't go looking for it if it's not immediately obvious.
Daft law that is now outdated...all that advertising about them only needed your reg to know all about tax, owner etc means nothing while the law requiring you to display the disc is still on the statute books.![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Oh well then looks like we loose then!!! Bloody women - can't live with them, cannt live without them (although I did make tea tonight)
Why do women have legs? - to get from the kitchen to the bedroom/ have you seen the mess slugs make?
Why did the woman cross the road? - who cares, what was she doing away from the kitchen sink?
Why did the woman have two black eyes? She had to be told - twice.
Appologies in advance to all on-line Scoobynet females.

No days grace any more I'm afraid. As soon as they see the chance they will rip you off for the extra money.
This is no longer a fair society, they are out to get your money any which way!
