Anyone use Walkie Talkies?

Thinking about getting a couple for upcoming snowboarding holiday, will be useful for me in quite a few everday situations though.
I know there range will be severley affected by the mountainous conditions just wondering if anyone on here uses them and if they worked at all?
What make do you recommend?

I've got a set of these: http://www.oregonscientific.co.uk/product.asp?p=193 they get decent reviews and have been pretty good so far, although I haven't tested them in mountains I'm afraid.
Good range for the price, so I'm told.

Yeah I got some a few years ago and they can come in quite handy.
Wish I'd got ones with recharging pods though, so they always operate at full power and you don't have to worry about buying batteries. Mine have also got a hands free input but I didn't get the kit with mine, that could be quite useful on a skiing holiday. In terms of range the work pretty well, but you need to be on the same mountain slope i.e. not a different valley, most state a 2km range in ideal conditions. I paid £50 for mine a few years ago, but you can get some decent rechargable ones for that sort of money now.

Got mine from Argos.....Motorola with a range of 5km. Have used them over hilly heathland but not mountainous terrain. The current Mrs CC also insists I carry one when I fish off the beach at Dunwich.....to make sure I'm not in the pub I suspect!
Have had no problems whatsoever with loss of contact, certainly up to 3 km. They were less than £20 IIRC.

Used motorolas in the past, usually end up putting one in the boss's office and transmitting rude noises to it during meetings ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
good range 3k in the open sounds about right.

"Someone" from another office then shouted "Oi get orff" via said walkie talkie and young girl ran off!
"Someone" here also winds up the maintenance staff as they use walkie talkies too.....terrible........!!

Ensure that they are legal in the country where you are going skiing.
Rechargeable is OK, but if you have 2 radios then you will have to plug in two chargers = two adapters, or an adapter with a multiplug. Batteries may be more convenient abroad. Having said that my Motorola T6222 lasted for a fortnight of reasonable use without requiring a recharge. They have a rechargable battery, but can take a standard battery if that runs out. I would guess in low temperatures and fairly constant use you will be lucky to get a week out of a single charge.

This website shows that use in France (excl. Monaco) is OK ![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
In an area of high use it is useful to be able to tune to the sub-bands, expanding the range of available channels from 8 to 8x38=304. this feature not available on the cheaper handsets.

I've used Motorola T Series for five skiing holidays. Mine came with a double charger. I've had no problems or issues. As said, use sub bands to avoid interference.
We have driven on the last three occasions. When you are in "convoy" they are a no cost alternative to mobiles![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Definately paid for themselves two or three times over.

I use this one http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...%20456&doy=7m3 sold in singles and pricy at £50.
I've used the little Alans £70 a pair, they were very good.
